The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge

Phyllis arrives in the lounge and says hello to Danny, who is sitting and enjoying a sparkling water. She makes some small talk about the weather.

Danny Romalotti.
CBS

Danny says, “It’s nice.”

Phyllis laughs. She got two words out of him!

Danny stammers something.

Phyllis sits down and says she gets it… The Bug returns to town, and Phyllis is on the back burner now!

Phyllis Summers.
CBS

Society

Christine joins Nina at her table.

Nina feels like she’s monopolizing Christine’s time.

Nina and Christine.
CBS

Christine laughs and says they have to take advantage of Nina being in town. She’s happy to hang out with Nina while Chance finishes his investigation.

Nina says she thought Chance would work more regular hours since he became the police chief, but that’s not the case.

Christine doesn’t think Chance likes spending much time behind a desk. She says it’s been nice to speak with Nina since people have been judgy lately.

Christine Blair.
CBS

Nina scoffs. Why would people judge her? For feeling something for Danny when she saw him again? Heck, she was in love with him before!

Christine says things just ended with her and Paul.

Nina says it’s not like anything happened between her and Danny. She sees the look on Christine’s face and figures that something must have happened between them.

Nina.
CBS

Crimson Lights

Chelsea comes into the coffee shop and sits down with Chloe. She’s excited because Summer wants to meet them outside the office and have an informal talk.

Chelsea Lawson.
CBS

Chloe doesn’t seem so happy… Being summoned by the boss isn’t a great sign.

Chelsea says they’re just having coffee; Chloe shouldn’t be so worried about it. She knows Chloe and Summer have been butting heads but says she’d be more worried if they weren’t. She thinks it’ll be a positive meeting.

Summer walks in and greets them both. She says she wanted to have a chat and clear the air, and mentions that Chloe has been frustrated with the design process and feels like Summer has been intrusive.

Summer and Chloe.
CBS

Chelsea says it can be good to have differences and can lead to great work.

Summer says she agrees and she respects Chloe’s expertise in fashion. It should be a collaboration, and she’s hopeful they can strike a balance.

Chloe doesn’t think it’s possible.

Chloe Mitchell.
CBS

Newman Enterprises

Nate is shocked. He’s fired?

Victor says Nate must have had it all planned… He was going to send him to a “looney bin” surrounded by doctors who didn’t give a damn about his health just to keep him away from Newman Enterprises.

Victoria Newman and Nate Hastings.
CBS

Nate protests.

Victor says he has everything he needs on his phone. He spoke to the head of the looney bin, and he has a full report.

Nate says he was protecting Victor’s privacy and had to arrange things in advance. There needed to be NDAs as a precaution.

Victor thumps his desk as he talks.
CBS

Victor says Nate was lying before, and he’s lying now.

Victoria tells Victor to calm down.

Victor says he’ll calm down when he feels like it. He admits that the entire memory loss and confusion was a charade… He never had any memory lapses; he knew who was in charge of Newman Media. He never had any fits of paranoia and then forgot about it a few minutes later.

Adam Newman.
CBS

Adam can’t believe Victor had pretended to forget that his granddaughter was dead.

Nick says he asked point-blank if it was a setup.

Victor says he had to find out who would possibly betray him. He thought at first it might be Adam, but he was relieved to find out the real culprit wasn’t him. He had to find out who he could trust and who he couldn’t.

Victor holds up a finger as he talks.
CBS

Victoria asks him if he mistrusted her.

Victor says he had his doubts about all of them.

Nick tells Victoria to quit wasting her time looking for a logical reason.

Nicholas Newman.
CBS

Victor says he had his eye on Victoria when he demoted her.

Victoria says she was a suspect because she honestly reacted to being shoved aside.

Victor says he never saw her that angry, and he felt like she was in the CEO chair for far too long. Power corrupts! Even now, she’s more concerned about her position than what her boyfriend has done.

Victoria gestures as she talks angrily.
CBS

Victoria says Nate was only trying to help… Victor’s the one who pretended his mind was slipping.

Victor says he did what he had to, and the outcome proves he was right.

Victoria says she would never inflict anything like that on anyone else in her family.

Victor.
CBS

Adam says he can think of someone she would.

Victoria says she’s hurt that Victor could think she’d take advantage of him… All because she was angry when she was demoted?

Victor says he built an enormous empire, and he saw it fall apart because of the in-fighting and because of Nate. He saw someone scheming to take it all over, and that’s why he reacted like he did.

Victoria asks how long Victor was planning on keeping it from his children.

Victoria.
CBS

Society

Nina asks Christine if she saw Danny after the last time they spoke.

Christine saw Danny at the club after Lauren had mentioned that Phyllis was there with him. She knows how Phyllis operates… She was probably trying to trash-talk her to Danny.

Nina Webster.
CBS

Nina laughs. She says that wouldn’t work. She wishes she could have seen their faces when Christine walked in; Danny probably acted like Phyllis didn’t exist!

Christine says Phyllis had to go somewhere with Daniel, and nothing happened afterward. She says she sat down with Danny at the piano and listened to him play… It was easy being with him.

Nina says they’re both single, and they have a special connection.

Christine Blair.
CBS

Christine explains that the last thing she expected was to talk about her breakup with Paul, but she found herself opening up to him… Danny’s a great listener!

Nina asks if Christine wants to pursue a relationship with Danny.

Christine tells her not to read too much into it. Right now, they’re just friends, and she has a lot of emotional baggage to unpack first.

Nina raises her hands as she talks.
CBS

Nina says the timing is kismet (destiny). Christine’s gotta see that!

Christine says she’s not rushing into anything.

Nina says that’s probably a smart move.

Christine smiles as she talks to Nina.
CBS

The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge

Phyllis tells Danny they were talking like friends before, but now he’s a one-word-sentence guy.

Danny says nothing has changed. He admires that Phyllis is working on herself.

Danny Romalotti.
CBS

Phyllis says he’s admiring her from arm’s length. She says Christine has it in for her.

Danny sighs and says Christine has more important things on her mind. He thinks Phyllis seems to be projecting her feelings onto him.

Phyllis says he’s right.

Phyllis Summers.
CBS

Danny asks if Phyllis thinks he’s so suggestible that he’d change his mind about her because of what someone said.

Phyllis apologizes. She says old habits die hard, and they keep coming back when it comes to “the Bug.”

Danny says he wishes Phyllis would stop calling her that.

Danny looks at Phyllis with surprise.
CBS

Phyllis says, “Oh? Cricket?”

Danny says she could just call her Christine.

Phyllis says she could do that.

Danny thanks her. He says Christine just got back into town after a rough breakup with Paul, and she’s going through a difficult time right now. He asks Phyllis to leave her alone.

Phyllis smiles.
CBS

Crimson Lights

Summer tells Chloe she’s sincere about wanting to find a way to oversee the design department that works for everyone.

Chloe says she’s not questioning Summer’s sincerity… She just feels that things won’t work.

Chloe Mitchell.
CBS

Chelsea wants to talk to Chloe privately before they continue the meeting.

Chloe says there’s no need.

Chelsea disagrees. There is a need since they’re partners.

Chelsea Lawson.
CBS

Chloe says things are only going to get worse. She doesn’t think it will be possible to work with Summer when she’s so hands-on and when there are three of them involved in the creative process.

Summer says she’s the CEO of Marchetti and needs to be hands-on.

Chloe says she’s not criticizing, but it’s easier with two people. When there are three people, one of them struggles to be overheard. She respects what Summer’s done with Marchetti, but she thinks she will be the odd one out, struggling to be heard, and that’s not where she wants to be right now.

Summer Newman.
CBS

The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge

Phyllis tells Danny she’s trying to change her life… She doesn’t want to revive old battles! She says Danny is right; she’s going to lay off Christine.

Danny is happy.

Phyllis talks to Danny.
CBS

Phyllis says she feels for Christine. She knows what it’s like to end a relationship and lose part of your heart. She doesn’t wish that on anyone.

Danny says he sees Phyllis falling back to her old ways.

Phyllis says that happens when you’re used to fighting for your life and fighting for people you care for.

Danny smiles.
CBS

Danny says he sees the effort she’s putting in.

Phyllis says she loves hearing it. She really does feel bad for Christine. She wouldn’t wish that pain on her worst enemy.

Danny asks if Phyllis is saying what he wants to hear.

Phyllis smiles.
CBS

Phyllis laughs and says Danny must be used to adoring fans screaming out his name and trying to impress him.

Danny says it’s just them talking… Come on!

Phyllis says she’s not the same person she was. She’s a work in progress.

Danny grins.
CBS

Danny laughs and says everyone is.

Phyllis says she’s working hard to change old patterns and has been considering meditation… Just imagine her trying to quiet her brain!

Danny says he felt the same way when he started. He’s been doing transcendental meditation for years, and it’s helped him.

Phyllis asks if he’d teach her.

Phyllis Summers.

Newman Enterprises

Nikki apologizes to Victoria. She says she wanted to tell her that Victor’s “decline” was all an act and told him what it was doing to her.

Victoria can’t believe Victor didn’t say anything to her, even after her mother asked him to.

Victoria, Nick, and Nikki Newman.
CBS

Nikki says if Victor had said anything to her, she would have taken it straight to Nate.

Victor says they would have never known about Nate’s true intentions if he had told her.

Nate protests that he offered a sound medical solution to get him diagnosed and treated. It was in Victor’s best interest!

Nate Hastings talks to Victor while Victoria Newman listens.
CBS

Victor says he respects Nate because he’s bright and accomplished, but Nate wanted to commit him to the looney bin so that Victoria could grab back the power Victor had taken from her.

Nate says he was protecting the company by providing the best care based on his years of medical experience.

Nikki tells Nate he didn’t care about what was best for Victor.

Nikki Newman.
CBS

Nate can’t believe it. He didn’t want to turn Newman Enterprises into a makeshift clinic. Everyone was worried about making it look like Victor was still working and nothing was wrong with him.

Adam says it would have protected the company and his father without fear of exposure or leaks.

Nate says everyone at Newman likes making up their own rules. He did nothing wrong! His plan was sound, and it was aboveboard. He had no ulterior motives, but the Newmans have decided, and there’s no convincing them otherwise. He says Victor did a favor by firing him. He walks out of the office.

Victoria tells her father they’ll talk about it later. She departs the office, following Nate.

Nate and Victoria.
CBS

The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge

Danny tells Phyllis that it might be amusing to watch her calm her brain, but he can’t teach her meditation.

Danny talks to Phyllis.
CBS

Phyllis asks if he can’t or he won’t.

Danny says he’d need to be certified, and it requires a high level of commitment. If she wants to change, she can’t just dabble in it.

Phyllis says she’s free and loud but likes the idea of meditation. She wants someone to hold her hand… Metaphorically speaking!

Phyllis smiles.
CBS

Danny says a certified trainer can help Phyllis tame her wild impulses.

Phyllis laughs and says she’s not sure she wants to be tamed but asks Danny to set her up with a meditation trainer. She asks if they could have dinner that evening.

Danny says he already has plans.

Phyllis figures his dinner plans are with Christine.

Danny.
CBS

CBS

Victoria says they are a team.

Nate says it didn’t feel like it when they were in Victor’s office.

Victoria says she’s as angry about it as Nate is.

Nate and Victoria.
CBS

Nate scoffs and says he doubts it.

Victoria can’t believe Victor did that after everything she’s done to prove her loyalty and her worth to him.

Nate says she’ll get over it.

Victoria says she hates things turned out this way.

Victoria talks to Nate.
CBS

Nate says that doesn’t make him feel better. He says Victoria threw him to the wolves.

Victoria protests that it’s not true.

Nate says she sided with Adam… That tells him everything he needs to know about her priorities. He says that Adam’s plan was the perfect setup to manipulate Victor from the inside, and if Victoria didn’t see that, she wasn’t paying attention.

Nate talks to Victoria.
CBS

In the office, Nick tells his father that he didn’t have to put them all through this just to get rid of Nate.

Victor says he didn’t know it was Nate. He had to come up with a loyalty test to figure it out!

Adam figures Victor was expecting him to fail, not Nate.

Adam.
CBS

Victor nods.

Adam says everyone expected him to make a power play.

Nikki says it wasn’t without good reason.

Adam tells his father that he has to hand it to him… That was a hell of a play, and he really did think that Victor was having problems. It shook him up.

Nikki.
CBS

Nikki tells Adam to spare them.

Nick says he has every reason to expect that Adam was going to use Victor’s situation to his own advantage. Victor has given him every chance, and Adam’s failed him every time.

Victor says he’s convinced Adam acted in Victor’s and the company’s best interests.

Victor.
CBS

In the elevator lobby, Victoria tells Nate that she never threw him to the wolves. If he wants to blame anyone, blame her father.

Nate says he doesn’t place all the blame on her. It’s all part of being a good Newman.

Victoria says she had no idea that Victor was going to fire Nate.

Victoria looks at Nate.
CBS

Nate says that when she did realize it, she fell right in line. She still has her job and family. He’s on the outside looking in.

Victoria says there’s a way to fix it.

Nate says she’d have to take a stand against her family. All he wanted to do was to protect her father and give her back what she deserved while he healed.

Nate stands in the elevator.
CBS

The elevator opens, and Nate steps in. He holds the door and tells Victoria that his only mistake was thinking she would have his back, but instead, she showed blind obedience to her father. He won’t make that mistake again. The elevator closes.

In the office, Victor says that if it had been a real crisis, everyone fighting would have led to catastrophe.

Nick says there wasn’t a real crisis.

Nicholas and Nikki.
CBS

Victor says they didn’t know that… Adam wanted everyone to work together.

Nick says they’ll never know. Victor ended the charade before Nate could be put to the test.

Victoria walks back into the room, scowling. She tells her father that Nate deserved better and Victor should have given him the benefit of the doubt. Why did he have to fire him so quickly?

Victoria.
CBS

Victor says Nate had called the looney bin and arranged it so he and Victoria could regain the power Victor had taken from her.

Nikki says Nate wanted to get Victoria back in charge so that he could be co-CEO again. She says he never had any genuine concern for Victor.

Victor says Nate would have done anything to achieve that, which was a form of revenge for demoting her.

Victor.
CBS

Victoria says that it was cruel of him to fake a mental decline.

Victor says Nikki had told him that if he’d told Victoria, she’d tell Nate… And his instinct turned out to be right.

Victoria says Victor’s mind may not be slipping, but his instincts are worthless regarding Adam. She says he expected Adam to betray him, but now he’s given Adam a free pass and excused all the terrible things Adam’s done.

Nikki talks to Victor.
CBS

Victoria goes on to say that everything Victor did was at the expense of his family, who only want to protect his legacy. She doesn’t know if she can forgive him for his betrayal. She leaves the office.

Nikki tells Victor she warned him this would happen.

Crimson Lights

Summer’s phone rings, and she excuses herself from the table, leaving Chelsea and Chloe to talk.

Chloe, Chelsea, and Summer talk.
CBS

Chelsea tells Chloe she didn’t know she was considering leaving Marchetti.

Chloe says she hadn’t seriously considered it until this meeting, but it makes sense.

Chelsea says it doesn’t make any sense… They’re a team. If Chloe leaves, that only leaves her, and she can’t be a one-person team!

Chloe and Chelsea talk.
CBS

Chloe says they’re a great team because Chelsea is a creator and Chloe is a facilitator, but now that Chelsea’s at Marchetti, she has a great facilitator… Summer!

Chelsea asks if it’s about Summer… Doesn’t Chloe like her?

Chloe says she has nothing against Summer. She’s the least “Newman” of all the Newmans!

Chelsea talks to Chloe.
CBS

Chelsea says that’s good. They’ve had worse bosses before… After all, they worked for Gloria!

Chloe laughs and says that even though Gloria was annoying, she always let them do their own thing, but it’s not like that with Summer… Summer always wants to give her input on things.

Chelsea thinks Summer is only trying to guide them.

Chloe talks to Chelsea.
CBS

Chloe says she’s doing more than that. Summer is the company’s CEO and should do what she wants, but Chloe feels that it’s just not suitable for her.

Chelsea says she needs Chloe.

Chloe says Chelsea needs to create and build something.

Chelsea looks at Chloe.
CBS

Chloe tells Chelsea that she’ll be fine.

Summer finishes her call and comes back to the table. She asks Chloe what she can do to keep Chloe at the company.

Chloe, Chelsea, and Summer.
CBS

Chloe says there’s nothing she can do to change her mind. She doesn’t want Summer to take it personally, but she doesn’t feel it’s the right fit.

Chelsea asks how she knows it’s not the right fit.

Chloe says she felt it earlier with Sally. She explains that they went out on a consult together, and while they were bouncing ideas around, it felt right. They fell into a rhythm that made her realize what a good collaboration felt like.

Chloe.
CBS

Chelsea says they used to have that.

Chloe says she doesn’t want to feel like she’s swimming against the current. It wouldn’t be fair to Chelsea or Summer.

Summer says she wants Chloe to know that she’s willing to try.

Chloe says she adores them both and knows they’ll do fantastic work together, but it’s time for her to move on.

Summer smiles.
CBS

The Neil Winters Jazz Loung

Phyllis says she’s just nosey. It really isn’t any of her business.

Phyllis is happy to hear that. She didn’t know Lucy was in town and asks if Heather is back as well.

Danny says she is.

Phyllis talks.
CBS

Phyllis says that’s interesting.

Danny tells her not to go there. She made it clear that she’d love nothing more than Daniel and Heather to get back together again.

Phyllis says that was a mistake. She overstepped, and she’s learned her lesson. She’s staying out of it.

Danny talks to Phyllis.
CBS

Danny nods. He says if she did that again, it would only push Daniel away again.

Phyllis promises to be good and asks Danny to cut her some slack.

Danny says he’s being supportive.

Phyllis.
CBS

Phyllis says her family is her top priority right now, and she’s working hard to change.

Danny says that if that’s the case, Phyllis is welcome to join them at dinner.

Christine tells Nina that she’s focusing on her professional life, not her personal life.

Christine talks with Nina.
CBS

Nina says that Christine had mentioned she didn’t want to serve as District Attorney anymore.

Christine says being a D.A. is wearing her down… People like Phyllis get to go free and inflict themselves on the world. She doesn’t have an appetite for it anymore.

Nina wonders if she’d still be involved in law if she gave up the D.A. position.

Nina talks on the phone.
CBS

Christine says she probably would do pro bono work or maybe corporate law… Something out of the spotlight.

Nina’s phone rings. It’s the hospital. She says, “Yes, I’m his mother. How bad is it?” She finishes the call and hangs up.

Nina tells Christine that Chance has been shot. They rush out of the restaurant.

Victor asks Nick what he thinks.

Nick says Victoria has devoted her life to preserving and growing what Victor has built. He hates seeing her go through this.

Nick talks to Victor as Nikki looks on.
CBS

Victor doesn’t like it either, but he thinks Victoria knows what he thought about Nate is correct. She must have experienced Nate’s growing ambition for more power.

Nick says he’s glad Nate’s gone, but he’s more surprised that Adam wasn’t the one who walked into Victor’s trap.

Adam tells Nick he wanted everyone to pull together for their father, and Nick was the one who wouldn’t put his personal feelings aside.

Adam points at Nick.
CBS

Victor says that since Nate is gone, he needs Nicholas back at the company.
