Last Episode
On the last episode of Y&R, Ashley offered to sell Tucker her share of Glacade, and Devon & Nate worked together to defuse tensions between Mamie & Jill.
Daniel’s Apartment
Daniel answers the door in his housecoat. It’s Heather.
Heather tells Daniel that she’s just picked up the keys to her new place and wants to thank him for everything he’s done by bringing him a coffee. She says she almost got one for Lily but figured she’d be at the office.
Daniel says Lily isn’t in the office; she’s out of town and will probably gone for a while. He heads into his bedroom to change out of his housecoat and into some clothes.
Newman Media
Nikki pauses to gather herself for a moment before opening her office door. Upon opening, she sees Audra waiting for her.
Audra says she was worried about Nikki… She heard Nikki had some kind of seizure?
Nikki, obviously upset, says Audra was misinformed; there was no seizure. She snaps that she’s fine.
Audra is taken aback but rolls with it. She says they need to go over some things that were missed while Nikki was away. She mentions that she couldn’t get ahold of Claire and asks where she is.
Nikki tells Audra that she doesn’t want to talk about Claire.
Crimson Lights
Nate and Devon sit and talk in the coffee shop. Nate tells Devon he’s looking forward to digging into his new position.
Devon looks forward to seeing what Nate can do. Hopefully, they can make it work this time!
Nate nods. He asks about the position and what projects Devon wants him to focus on.
Devon says there’s a portfolio that contains their top priorities. He wants Nate to go through it and give them his thoughts. He wants some of the “big idea” thinking that Nate had demonstrated before.
Nate’s confident he can handle it.
Devon explains that they’ve got a new hire that they want Nate to talk to so that he can utilize her strengths.
Nate is happy to hear that and says he’ll do his best.
Devon says that since Lily is away, he will ask more of Nate than normal.
Nate says his main focus is on Chancellor-Winters. He doesn’t want Lily to feel like she has to rush back to keep things running.
Devon’s happy to hear that.
Nate tells Devon he’s appreciative that he’s been accepted back into the company and the family.
Devon tells him he’s happy to have him back, but they’ll never get any work done if Nate doesn’t stop thanking him for it!
They laugh. Nate says it will be a relief to focus on work instead of dealing with Newman family politics. He’ll prove that Devon, Lily, and Mamie have made the right decision by bringing him on board.
Devon says he believes in Nate.
Victoria walks into the coffee shop, and the smile drops from Nate’s face.
Nate tells Devon he’ll look at the portfolio and see him back at the office. He says a curt hello to Victoria on his way out.
Victoria and Devon exchange pleasantries. Victoria tells Devon that seeing him and Nate getting along is nice. She asks if Nate is working at Chancellor-Winters now.
Cole walks into the coffee shop and stands at the counter, waiting for Victoria.
Devon says Nate is at Chancellor-Winters on a trial basis. He says it’s important to their family to have Nate working with them.
Victoria agrees and says that she doesn’t think Nate set out to undermine her father. She thinks Nate had Victor’s best interests at heart.
Devon says that’s nice to hear; the rest of her family seemed to feel differently about Nate. He mentions that Victor has lost all trust in Nate.
Victoria says her father is wrong. She sees Cole waiting for her and introduces him to Devon.
Devon says he has to leave for the office. He says goodbye and heads out.
Victoria asks Cole how things went at the Lake House.
Cole says it was like stepping back into a living hell.
Newman Media
Nikki apologizes for lashing out at Audra. She says Claire is no longer employed at Newman Media. Claire was not the person she presented herself to be; it was all a charade!
Audra’s confused. A charade?
Nikki says Claire manipulated her way into the company to set a trap for her and her family.
Audra says it doesn’t make sense.
Nikki says it really doesn’t make sense. She says Claire and her “purported aunt” are psychopaths who tried to kill her, Victor, Nick, and Victoria.
Audra’s horrified. She asks what Claire and Jordan’s motivations were.
Nikki doesn’t know what motivated them. She explains that Claire used her as bait to lure the rest of her family to Oregon.
Audra is blown away. Claire’s sweetness was all an act?
Nikki nods.
Audra says she had a feeling that something about Claire wasn’t trustworthy, but she had no idea she was that evil.
Nikki says she needs Audra to keep this information in confidence. She can’t say a word to anyone.
Audra agrees and says Nikki might need to take some time off to deal with it.
Nikki says she needs to work as a distraction. She asks Audra to fill her in on what happened while she was away.
Daniel’s Apartment
Heather says that Mattie must need her mother at a time like this.
Daniel agrees. He says Mattie escaped without being hurt, but her professor died in the fire. He can’t imagine how he’d react if it was their daughter in that situation.
Heather nods. It’s bad enough hearing about someone else’s daughter. She says Daniel is there for his daughter now, and that’s what matters. She takes his hand and rubs it gently.
Daniel thanks her for being so supportive. He says he wouldn’t blame her if she was still angry at him for how he spiraled out in their previous relationship.
Heather says she’s inspired and impressed by how he’s turned his life around. She says she was talking about it with Lucy the other day, and they both feel they have the man back in their life that they thought they’d lost… Only better! She says they need to put their hurt and pain behind them.
Daniel says her forgiveness means a lot to him. It makes his hard work worth it.
Heather says he’s more than made up for his mistakes. Lucy loves being with him.
Daniel says his father told him never to waste any moment you’re given, and he intends to do that moving forward.
Heather says Daniel’s dad is very wise, but has he shared his secret sauce recipe?
Daniel smirks and says he hasn’t. The “make the most out of every moment crap” must not apply to spaghetti.
They laugh.
Society
Abby kisses Devon when he enters the restaurant. She says it’s obvious something is bothering him; what’s up?
Devon explains that it was Nate’s first day at the office, so they met for coffee to discuss it before work. Everything was going well… Until Victoria showed up.
Abby figures Nate and Victoria haven’t smoothed things over.
Devon shakes his head. Nope. Devon’s worried that Nate will be distracted by Victoria when they need him to be focused on Chancellor-Winters.
Abby asks if Devon thinks hiring his cousin is a mistake.
Newman Media
Audra talks business, but Nikki is distracted and tuned out.
Nikki flashes back to her time at the Lake House and can’t stop thinking about the alcohol she drank.
Audra interrupts Nikki’s thoughts and asks if she’s alright.
Crimson Lights
Cole tells Victoria the police cordoned off the Lake House, so he had to sneak in.
Victoria says going back there would have creeped her out.
Cole says it was unsettling being back in the house. He found Claire’s bedroom and grabbed a hairbrush and a toothbrush. Now, they need samples from him and Victoria to get a DNA comparison done.
Victoria says she’s been an emotional wreck; she can’t help but wonder if Claire is their baby… But what if she’s not?
Cole tells her that either way, they’ll do whatever they can to get Claire the help she needs. They need to find a way to connect with Claire, who doesn’t deserve what Jordan did to her; Claire could have had a completely different life!
Victoria says she wants to find a way to help Claire, even if they’re not her parents.
Cole agrees, but they can’t do anything until they get the DNA results.
Victoria says there will be more questions when they get the answers.
Newman Media
Audra brings Nikki a glass of water. She asks if Nikki heard anything she said.
Nikki shakes her head and says she hasn’t completely gotten over her ordeal.
Audra figures Nikki needs time to get it out of her system.
Nikki asks sharply, “What do you mean, out of my system?” She realizes what she said. “Oh. Yeah.”
Audra says she can only imagine the rage that Nikki must be feeling.
Nikki says she gets furious thinking of how vulnerable they were. She’s got to get over it because she can’t let them win!
Audra understands. She says she hates feeling weakness in herself and that, little by little, Nikki will get over the shock and feel like her old “rule the world” self again.
Nikki hopes so.
Audra says they should go for lunch, and they can go over everything at the Athletic Club.
Nikki says she’s not ready to go out in public. She tells Audra to go by herself and bring her back a salad.
Audra tells Nikki that it’s okay to lean on people for support sometimes… Even “the invincible Nikki Newman” needs it sometimes. She leaves the office, closing the door behind her at Nikki’s request.
Nikki waits a moment after Audra’s gone before digging in her purse. She pulls out a flask and drains it.
Daniel’s Apartment
Daniel asks Heather when she moves into her new house since she’s signed the lease and has the keys.
Heather says they’re moving in “soon.”
Daniel says if they need help, he’s available.
Heather says there’s not much for him to do, but she appreciates the offer. She says Lucy won’t be happy unless she hires the same decorator that Daniel used.
Daniel says Heather has a great sense of design and style… Why doesn’t she do the design herself?
Heather says Daniel must be misremembering. He’s the artistic one, and she’s more practical. She says their daughter doesn’t appreciate her “practical style” and inherited Daniel’s artistic flair.
Daniel laughs and says that could be more of a curse than a blessing.
Heather thanks him again for finding them a place and putting in a good word for her at Chancellor-Winters. She says she got the job and will be working there soon.
Daniel thinks that’s fantastic news. He says it means everything to him to have Lucy close to him and wants Heather to know she can always count on him.
Heather asks if she can count on him to join her for lunch; a man can’t survive on coffee alone!
Society
Abby tells Devon that she knows he was worried when Nate got fired from Newman, but she thinks Victor was to blame because of the way he set his trap. She’s glad she was left out of the drama.
Devon laughs and says she was spared from the worry. He says Nate says that he was only looking out for the company and Victor. He says Victoria thinks Victor wronged Nate.
Abby says that’s good because Victoria doesn’t give the benefit of the doubt easily.
Devon nods. He says that Nate doesn’t feel Victoria had his back. He hopes that doesn’t cloud Nate’s judgment.
Heather and Daniel enter the restaurant.
Abby says hello and tells them they’ve come to the right place for a nice lunch.
Daniel tells Devon that he spoke with Lily earlier, and she’s where she needs to be right now… With Mattie.
Abby asks Heather if she’s settled in yet.
Heather says her move is going smoothly so far. She’s excited about her new job at Chancellor-Winters.
Devon says they’re happy to have Heather’s legal skills at the company.
Heather says Daniel found her the perfect place to live, and she’s feeling more balanced and settled than she has in a long time.
Abby says it’ll be different than her “glamorous European lifestyle.”
Heather laughs and says it wasn’t that glamorous. She realized how unbalanced her life was in Portugal and had to accept that she made some bad decisions for the wrong reasons.
Daniel says she’s being too hard on herself.
Heather says she’s not. She says that moving Lucy back to be with her dad made all the sense in the world, and now she’s in the right place at the right time.
Crimson Lights
Victoria tells Cole they need to be prepared for how they’ll handle it if Claire turns out to be their daughter.
Cole says it’s hard to deal with… They buried their daughter years ago and grieved for her. It still haunts him.
Victoria says the hole in her heart has never healed, and now it’s possible that they never lost their daughter after all.
Cole smiles and says it’d be a miracle. He says he’s sorry that Victoria’s going through this.
Victoria says they’ll get through it together no matter how things turn out with Claire.
Michael walks into the coffee house and greets Victoria and Cole. He says he’s met with Claire and can understand why Cole and Victoria are so conflicted.
Society
Daniel and Heather are seated. Daniel asks when Heather starts her new job.
Heather says she’s starting right away.
Daniel thinks that’s great. He says her expertise will be needed to help them sort out any licensing issues.
Heather says she’s not a “loophole lawyer.” She sticks to the letter of the law.
Daniel laughs. He assumed so.
Heather says, “When you seek the truth with all your heart, the road is paved with justice.”
Daniel recognizes the quote. He says that’s directly out of Chelsea’s part of the game. He asks if she’d played it.
Heather laughs. She says she got to “Emotional Warrior Level 72!”
Abby can’t keep her eye off Heather and Daniel.
Devon asks her what’s on her mind.
Abby beats around the bush and says it’s nice that Heather brought Lucy to be close to her father. She asks how long Lily is going to be away.
Newman Media
Nikki finishes the flask of booze. There’s a knock at the door, and she yells, “Just a minute!”. She hurriedly puts the flask away and eats a breath mint before calling for the visitor to come in.
Audra walks in with Nikki’s salad and drops it on the desk.
Nikki thanks her and says it didn’t take Audra as long as expected.
Audra asks if Nikki is feeling better.
Nikki says she’s feeling tired. She’s more worn out than she realized. She says she might not be able to make it through the day.
Audra tells her to head home and recover. Audra will fill in for her.
Nikki agrees. She takes her salad and leaves.
Audra sees her out.
Crimson Lights
Michael sits down with Victoria and Cole and says Jordan did a number on Claire’s head. He says Claire is deeply troubled, and he had a hard time believing that the “traumatized figure” was charged with those horrific crimes.
Victoria asks how Claire is holding up in jail.
Michael says she’s scared and detached from it all. She’s disillusioned and isn’t sure of who she really is.
Victoria says it’s a nightmare.
Michael explains that Claire is traumatized by finding out her life was a lie. In his professional opinion, if Claire is sentenced, it will destroy what’s left of her. She needs psychiatric care, not a jail cell!
Cole asks Michael how much of her crimes were caused by coercion and grooming.
Michael says that’s up to the court to decide. They still need to prove she’s their daughter.
Cole says he’s got the items for a DNA test.
Victoria asks if Michael is going to take Claire’s case.
Michael nods. He will, as long as Victoria and Cole are also on board. He says Claire needs all the help she can get. He says the DNA results will clarify some things and asks if the answer will change how they feel about helping Claire.
Cole says he’s unsure how to wrap his head around it, but Claire deserves a defense.
Victoria agrees. Claire needs an attorney to keep her out of prison and to get her the help she needs.
Michael nods. They’re on the same page. He says their defense will focus on how Jordan brainwashed Claire and turned her into a monster.
Cole says Michael seems invested in helping Claire.
Michael says it’s personal for him; he knows how parental figures can warp young minds. He had his own dark side to contend with when he was younger and knows how destructive this type of behavior can be. Michael thinks anyone who hurts a child in that way should pay dearly… In this life and the next!
Society
Devon tells Abby he’s not sure when Lily will be coming home. He says Charlie is flying out from New York to spend the weekend with Lily and Mattie.
Abby says family bonding time will help Mattie get through the trauma. She has a feeling that Daniel is going to miss Lily a lot.
Daniel tells Heather that he’s impressed she got to level 72. He says it takes serious commitment to get that far.
Heather says she had to understand Chancellor-Winters and OmegaSphere, or she couldn’t be effective at her job… And she needs to be effective if Daniel has as many licensing issues as she thinks he does.
Daniel laughs and says she is a loophole lawyer!
Heather shushes him and says he can’t tell anybody. She says she really liked the game; it was rewarding to play!
Daniel says that’s high praise; hearing her say that means a lot.
Heather says she learned things about herself when she was playing it. She’s proud of him and thinks she’s found his niche.
Daniel couldn’t agree more. His phone rings. He excuses himself from the table to take the call. It’s Lily.
Abby watches Heather’s reaction from afar.
The Newman Ranch House
Nikki comes home and looks around, calling for Victor. There’s no answer. She closes the door and takes the flask out of her purse.
Nikki heads over to the bar tray. She picks up the bottle of vodka, and before filling her flask, she drinks out of the bottle.
Victoria calls out for her mother, asking if Nikki is home.
Nikki scrambles to put away the booze.
