On the last episode of Y&R, Adam gave in to Victor’s demands as Diane & Jack got married, while Billy set a plan in motion.
The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge
Summer sits alone at the bar in the lounge, drinking.
Daniel walks in, talking to Lily on the phone. He finishes his call.
Summer asks what Daniel is so happy about.
Daniel says things are going really well with Lily and with Omega Sphere.
Summer thinks she should play his video game… Maybe that would help her fix her life!
Phyllis’s GCAC Suite
There’s a knock at Phyllis’s door. It’s Nick.
Nick charges into the room and starts telling Phyllis that she not only faked her death, but she ruined Summer’s marriage.
Phyllis tells Nick he’s making her feel worse than she already does.
Nick’s angry. He says he’s there to make her a deal… If she gets acquitted, he’ll pay for her legal fees, but she has to leave town forever. He says that Summer doesn’t want to see her face ever again; nobody does!
Phyllis wakes up. Nick coming over was a dream.
Crimson Lights
Tessa and Mariah sit down as Sharon fusses over the baby.
Tessa laughs as she tells Sharon that she understands that she wants to see the baby every day… Message received.
Mariah says they thought they’d check in on Sharon. She asks how she’s doing after the Cameron incident. She talked to Faith, who seemed just fine.
Sharon says both her daughters are warriors, after all, Mariah survived her own kidnapping just fine!
Mariah says that they won the genetic lottery.
Sharon says she’s looking forward to her new company and new partners… Nick and Adam.
Mariah laughs and asks how all three of them are working together and not killing each other yet.
Society
Nick and Adam sit and talk.
Adam says that Victor pulled the rug out from under him and told Adam that Victor’s the one in charge of the company now, and then Victor left the country and went to Germany to raise money.
Nick asks if Adam pissed Victor off again.
Adam says he didn’t do anything.
Nick thinks Adam must have done something… Adam ruined things not only for himself but he’s ruined it for Nick and Sharon too.
The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge
Phyllis walks into the lounge and apologizes to Daniel and Summer for being late. She looks around the room for a moment, lost in thought.
Daniel sarcastically asks Phyllis if it’s tough for her to be in the room after her collapse at the gala.
Summer smirks and says maybe Phyllis is just remembering being a guest at her own funeral and watching them grieve.
Phyllis says she’s going to move on and hopes they can too. She says it’s the past, and she can’t change it.
Daniel and Summer sit silently, listening.
Phyllis swears she’s a different person now. She says her future with Daniel and Summer is the most important thing in her life.
She says she’s committed to rebuilding her life and will do whatever it takes to earn their forgiveness.
Neither Daniel nor Summer responds, and Phyllis asks for their input on something… What do they think about her going to work with Adam Newman?
Society
Nick says Adam just can’t seem to let go of his idea of taking back Newman Media.
Adam starts talking, but Nick cuts him off. Nick asks if Adam thinks he can pull the wool over their father’s eyes.
Nick tells Adam they had three months to start things up without Victor’s interference, but that wasn’t enough for Adam.
Adam says it’s not about him. It’s about their plans for the new company. He says that Newman Media will be redundant by the time the three months are up… Why wait to make their move?
Nick thinks Victor has something else up his sleeve. He asks why Victor would say he’s taking over, then suddenly leave the country to secure financing when he could raise the money locally easier.
Crimson Lights
Sharon tells Mariah and Tessa it’s going to be a bit of a learning curve for all three of them when she works together with Adam and Nick.
Mariah says that’s one way of putting it.
Sharon says each person brings a different skill set to the table.
Tessa says that Sharon’s inspiring her.
Sharon says that despite their differences, she’s going to flourish with Nick & Adam. She asks Mariah if she’d consider leaving Jabot and coming to work with her.
Mariah looks stunned. She asks if Sharon is serious about wanting Mariah to work for her.
Sharon laughs and says she wants to work with Mariah, not have her work for her.
Mariah says her maternity leave is up, and she was planning to return to Jabot full-time.
Sharon knows that Mariah was going back to Jabot, but if she lived in a perfect world with no Jabot in it, would Mariah consider the offer?
Mariah asks what her job title would be.
Sharon tells her it could be “VP of Marketing” or whatever title Mariah wants. They need someone with a strong vision, and with Mariah’s background, she fits the bill.
Sharon wants the company to launch with excitement and fanfare, and can’t imagine anyone better for the job.
Tessa agrees wholeheartedly, saying Mariah is the best choice for a job like that.
The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge
Daniel and Summer can’t believe Phyllis would want to work with Adam Newman.
Summer thinks Phyllis should choose someone less “shady” than Adam to work with.
Phyllis says Adam is running what used to be McCall Unlimited, which Summer’s grandfather had bought… Hadn’t she heard?
Summer looks confused.
Phyllis says she’s going to be the head of IT for their media company. She says she’ll have to pay back Stark’s life insurance policy, and her assets are frozen until after the trial.
Daniel says he can help with the money.
Phyllis says she wants to work; she doesn’t want a handout. It’ll keep her occupied until the trial.
Summer says Adam can’t help her polish her reputation… Maybe Phyllis should work for Marchetti instead.
Phyllis doesn’t think a job at Marchetti is a good idea. He says Adam has offered her a high-level position based on her skills.
Daniel says Phyllis looks worried about the job… What’s she worried about?
Phyllis says Adam’s partners are Nick and Sharon. She can tolerate Sharon, but Nick… She doesn’t think he’ll ever forgive her for what her actions cost Summer.
Society
Nick says that Victor is testing Adam.
Adam asks why Nick would think that.
Nick says Victor laid down the law and then slipped into the shadows to see how Nick and Adam would react… Would they follow his orders?
Adam says it sounds like their father.
Nick says it’s a lose-lose situation.
Adam says the lesser of two evils is the way to go. He says not to wait for Victor; they must call his bluff and do what’s best for the business.
Nick calls Adam’s idea of taking over Newman Media foolish.
Adam asks if Nick has any ideas on how to prove themselves to Victor.
Nick says they need to make a big splash with a launch event, which would win Victor’s approval. He says they need to change the name of the company because “Adustus” isn’t working.
Crimson Lights
Mariah tells Sharon she loves working at Jabot, but things are a little shaky right now… There’s some kind of power struggle going on.
Sharon is interested.
Mariah says Kyle had told her that Jabot’s troubles had to do with Diane’s engagement to Jack, and something about Ashley and Tucker and a takeover attempt at the company.
Mariah tells Sharon that her work environment felt unstable after she talked with Kyle about it. Kyle was the one that hired her at Marchetti, and now he’s left the family company for a position with Newman Media.
Sharon says Kyle needed a change, and maybe Mariah does too.
Mariah says it would be a big change and doesn’t want to leave Jack in the lurch.
Sharon says she will talk to Jack; she’s sure he’ll understand about Mariah wanting to work with family.
Tessa asks what Mariah’s “exceptional instincts” are telling her to do… What does Mariah really want?
The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge
Summer tells Phyllis that she’s hopeful that her father will learn to forgive Phyllis.
Phyllis says she was spiraling out of control and the situation got out of hand… She brought Jeremy Stark to Genoa City, when she should have just let Diane implode on her own.
Daniel says that Phyllis needs to stop second-guessing. He and Summer are just happy Phyllis is alive.
He says Phyllis should take the job with Adam.
Summer says that Adam’s company is owned by her grandfather, Victor, so it’s under the Newman umbrella.
Summer thinks maybe it would be good for Phyllis’s image… If the Newmans can get over it, anyone can.
Phyllis asks Summer if she thinks Nick can get over it.
Summer says that Nick cares for Phyllis and he’s forgiven her for a lot in her past. He’ll come around, and they’ll be friends again.
Phyllis thanks Summer and says it means a lot to hear that from her.

Tessa takes Mariah’s hand and says she’s going to have to trust her heart… What does Mariah think will give her the best chance at success?
Society
Adam slings out a few company names for Nick… “Freedom.” “Liberty.” “Libertas.”
Nick shakes his head and says Adam has to stop.
Sharon sits down at the table with them and asks what she missed.
Adam says that Nick wanted to change the name of the company.
Sharon smirks and looks at Nick.
Adam says that Adustus came from a dark place, but he felt burned then. He says his ideas for the company are still sound, and he still thinks that their company and Newman Media being separate is wrong.
Sharon says they must consider it a reinvention so they can work towards a positive future.
Nick says he was saying the same thing.
Adam says there’s no doubt he’s negative. Sharon and Nick have tried to get him to change in the past… What makes them think he’ll change now?
The Neil Winters Jazz Lounge
Phyllis has left the lounge, and Daniel brings Summer a glass of wine and sits down with her. He asks Summer if she noticed the way their mother was acting as they talked about Carson.
Summer says Phyllis seemed scared about Carson not testifying… It’s like there was a problem that Phyllis wasn’t telling them about.
Daniel asks what Summer means by that.
Summer says the first time she talked to their mom about Carson, Phyllis said she’d have to pay him off to testify on her behalf.
Daniel says Michael made it clear that Carson was the key to getting Phyllis’s charges dropped.
They talk about whether Carson is lying for Phyllis and what else Phyllis could be hiding.
Crimson Lights
Mariah tells Tessa that it would make her feel good to help Sharon with a new venture.
Tessa says she loves the idea, but Mariah would be taking a risk. She’s never known Mariah to back away from a challenge, though!

Tessa says this would be something special… She’d be building something, and Mariah lights up when she talks about working with Sharon.
Mariah says Tessa knows her so well. They kiss.
Society
Sharon tells Nick that Adam’s just acting out for their benefit.
Nick says he’s seen glimpses of the inner Adam, and he’s not all dark inside.
Adam gives in. He says he’ll try to be more positive from now on. He can’t promise anything, but he’ll try his best. He says to hell with Victoria and to hell with Victor’s tests and mind games.
Sharon asks what tests and mind games Adam’s talking about.
Adam says it’s nothing. He says he made a move without consulting with either of them.
Sharon asks what Adam did.
Adam says he offered Phyllis a job as Head of I.T.
Nick is indignant. He says Phyllis ruined Summer’s marriage and is probably going to jail for murder. He asks what Adam was thinking by hiring Phyllis.
Phyllis’s GCAC Suite
Phyllis stares at her phone momentarily, then picks it up and calls Adam.
Adam says, “Speak of the devil.” He answers the call.
Phyllis tells Adam she’s chosen to accept his job offer, but she needs his help first.
