Summer says nothing’s going on. She goes to leave, but Chance stops her.

Chance tells Summer he doesn’t want to push but hopes she knows she can trust him.

Summer says he’s the cop who arrested her mom, and she’d love to talk to him, but she doesn’t know how to explain any of it… She says everything has changed.

Chance and Summer talk.
CBS

Crimson Lights

Christine, Heather, and Phyllis sit talking at a table in the cafe.

Heather tells Phyllis to stop talking before they can talk in private.

Phyllis Summers.

Phyllis doesn’t listen. She tells Christine she’s ready to plead guilty to all the charges to avoid a trial, but in writing, she needs something from Christine in return.

Christine says she’s listening.

Phyllis asks that Christine agree not to prosecute Daniel or Summer.

CBS

Christine agrees.

Phyllis asks if they can get in front of a judge immediately, same day.

Chance looks confused.

Summer Newman.

Chance asks if she feels like that about her mom.

Summer says she does. She’s letting go because she can’t control her mom, and she can’t change her.

Summer and Chance.
CBS

Chance asks about Kyle.

Summer says there’s no going back with Kyle either. Maybe this is what liberation feels like.

The Genoa City Courthouse

Christine, Heather, and Phyllis stand in the judge’s chambers as the judge enters the room.

Heather and Phyllis stand.
CBS

Christine thanks the judge for meeting with them on such short notice.

Heather tells Phyllis to stop for a minute and think about things.

The judge asks if the defendant is going against counsel’s advice.

The judge takes a seat.
CBS

Phyllis affirms she is going against the advice of her lawyer, and says she knows what she’s doing and why.

The judge has them take a seat. She understands that Phyllis wants to change her plea, and wishes to plead guilty to all charges against her.

Phyllis says that’s correct, she doesn’t want it going to trial, and she’s willing to plead guilty. She asks that the judge hears how she ended up in front of her, begging for mercy.

Christine listens to the judge.
CBS

The judge agrees and says that Christine has submitted a sentencing recommendation, but she doesn’t have to accept it. She asks what Phyllis wants her to know before making her decision.

Phyllis says she was terrified by Jeremy Stark, and he did horrible things. He served time in prison.

Christine says that Phyllis had also served time in prison.

Heather looks concerned.
CBS

Phyllis continues telling the judge that Diane Jenkins’ testimony landed Stark in prison, and Jeremy thought that Phyllis should fake her death and blame Diane for it.

Phyllis emphasizes that Diane had done the same thing, faking her own death years ago.

The judge asks if Phyllis went along with Stark’s plan.

Phyllis Summers.
CBS

Phyllis said she did, for revenge on Diane. She says she didn’t understand then how everyone gave Diane a free pass, and nobody did the same for her… She says she’s never been given a free pass for anything in her life.

Phyllis explains that her children had abandoned her, and Jeremy preyed upon her isolation and manipulated her by threatening her and her children.

The judge asks if Phyllis married Stark before this plan went into effect.

The judge gestures as she talks to Phyllis.
CBS

Phyllis says she married Stark because it was one of Jeremy’s stipulations. At the time, she thought it didn’t matter because she’d be “dead” anyhow.

The judge asks what happened after they were married.

Phyllis says that everything happened quickly after they were married. The poisoning at the gala, the ambulance crash… Jeremy Stark set everything up to point to Diane as the guilty party.

Phyllis and Heather.
CBS

The judge says everything had gone according to the plan that Jeremy and Phyllis had agreed to.

Phyllis tells the judge that she was trying to protect her family. She recounts that her children had a memorial for her, which she attended. She saw her children in pain and realized that she had caused it.

She says that’s when things changed for her… She couldn’t imagine the rest of her life without her children, and she wanted out, but Jeremy wouldn’t let her out of it.

The judge talks to Phyllis.
CBS

Phyllis says Jeremy started threatening her children, took out a life insurance policy on Phyllis, and named himself the beneficiary… But then he changed the plan.

The judge asks how Stark changed it.

Phyllis says that at first, Stark would help her disappear, but then he said they would live together as a married couple on an island, with everything that entailed.

Phyllis begs.
CBS

Phyllis refused Stark’s change of plans, but then Stark said he’d kill her. He attacked her, and she defended herself.

The judge asks if she’s referring to the attack that Mr. Carson witnessed.

Phyllis says she didn’t know that Carson had witnessed anything, but apparently, he was watching through the window and saw everything. She says she killed Jeremy Stark before he could kill her. She admits to stabbing him and killing him.

Christine.
CBS

Phyllis is crying as she admits that it haunts her… She wakes up at night, sees his face, hears his voice, and feels his hands on her throat. She says that she made a split-second decision.

Phyllis begs for mercy and hopes the judge understands that she was coerced.

The judge asks Christine if there’s anything she’d like to say.

Christine Blair.
CBS

Christine says she appreciates Phyllis coming forward to tell them what happened and expressing remorse for deceiving an entire community, framing an innocent woman, and taking a man’s life. She says laws were broken, and they can’t forget that.

The judge asks if Christine feels any different about the sentencing recommendation after hearing Phyllis’s side of the story.

Christine says she doesn’t feel any different. She says the guilty plea was Phyllis’s choice, and while a lighter sentence may be in order, it has to be in keeping with the severity of the crimes committed.

The Judge, Christine, and Heather.
CBS

The judge asks Heather if she has anything to say.

Heather says that Phyllis showed great character by speaking at the hearing. She says she’s not surprised that the D.A. would argue for a significant sentence since her history with Phyllis is well-known.

Christine says she’d never let her personal feelings get in the way of her legal responsibilities. She says they have no evidence that Stark attacked Phyllis other than Carson’s statement, and Carson isn’t a reliable witness.

Christine says that Carson lied to authorities more than once, and they have no proof that Stark threatened Phyllis’s children. Her position is based on facts and says Heather is out of line to suggest otherwise.

Christine talks to Heather.

  1. By far this was one of the most gripping and best written episodes I had seen on Y&R in a long time! -Michelle Stafford & Lauralee Bell gave STELLAR performances!…And I’m just hoping and praying that by PAUL summoning Christine to Lisbon; that this means Doug Davidson will return to the canvas at Y&R, if only for a FEW episodes; to reprise his role AS PAUL, to tie up some loose ends-With his on-screen wife Christine(Lauralee Bell);and with US his FANS!!!…
