On the last episode of Y&R, Daniel begged Phyllis not to interfere in his love life, Billy opened up to Lily, and Mariah moved in with Devon & Abby.
The Newman Ranch House
Nikki and Victor sit down and talk at the chess table.
Nikki says she’s on board with Victor’s plan for her to be CEO at Newman Media.
Victor is very happy about this. He can’t think of anyone more qualified for the position. He says she has his complete trust.
Nikki realizes that she’s become Adam’s enemy in much the same way Victor and Nick have.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam answers the door. It’s Sharon, who walks in like she owns the place.
Adam says that Sharon must have heard the news of how his father shut him out. He asks if Nick is excited about it.
Sharon cuts him off. She says Adam was dealt a big blow, and she’s there because she’s concerned for him.
Adam scoffs and says Sharon blew up at him publicly; why would she be concerned for him?
Sharon says she was frustrated. She knows that Adam must be devastated by his father’s actions.
Adam says he has nobody to blame but himself. He sounds scared as he says, “I’m in freefall now, and I’m not sure what to do about it.”
Newman Enterprises
Nick walks into Victoria’s office. He welcomes her back and asks her how L.A. went.
Victoria says it took longer than expected, but everything came out well in the end.
Nick says she usually does. He asks why Victoria wants to see him.
Victoria says Nate told her Victor had restructured the company without consulting her. She’s furious about it and wants to confront him, but she wants to know what Nick thinks first.
Nick scoffs and says that he didn’t think that Victoria wanted his opinion anymore… Or she wouldn’t have forced a “leave of absence” on him.
Victoria says she cares what he thinks.
Nick says that Nate’s job is secure, which must be a relief for Victoria.
Victoria says Nate told her that Adam is out and Nikki will be the new CEO of Newman Media.
Nick says Victoria conveniently left out the part where Nick was returning to Newman Enterprises and will be squarely between her and Nate… Nick is sure that’s the part Victoria hates the most.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam asks why Sharon is there if not to yell at him.
Sharon says Adam tends to go off the deep end when Victor rejects him, and she’s there to make sure he doesn’t go into a dark place.
Adam says she can’t save him this time… Why bother trying?
Sharon shrugs and says she’s an optimist.
Adam says she always is; she thought it would work when she offered to merge the companies, but it blew up because of Adam… As usual.
Sharon says his pursuit of Newman Media blinded him.
Adam says he’s lost everything now.
Sharon says he can always turn things around.
Adam wonders if he can do that. He thinks it’s his destiny to be a loser.
Sharon says she came to help, but she won’t baby him.
Adam says she’s right; he’s his own worst enemy. He wants Sharon’s help, and he needs to change the self-loathing part of himself.
The Newman House
Nikki tells Victor she’s spoken to Audra.
Victor asks how Audra took the news.
Nikki says that Audra already knew because Nate told her about the CEO position. She told Audra she wasn’t sure she’d take the position. She tells Victor that Audra and Kyle Abbott are romantically involved.
Victor asks if Summer knows about it.
Nikki says that Summer knows, and they’re getting a divorce.
Victor says Kyle is an Abbott, and Audra is better without him.
Nikki says she told Audra that she has to stop her relationship with Kyle if she wants to keep her job.
Victor is glad Nikki put Audra in her place. He thinks she’s a valuable asset, but not if she upsets their granddaughter, Summer.
The GCAC
Kyle and Audra sit at the bar in the Athletic Club restaurant. Kyle can’t believe that Nikki told Audra to stop seeing him.
Audra says that Kyle shouldn’t be surprised… How else did he expect Nikki to react?
Kyle figures Summer must have told Nikki.
Audra says that Nikki thinks Audra is stopping Kyle from reconciling with Summer.
Kyle says Nikki’s wrong and shouldn’t be meddling in their personal life… It’s none of her business.
Audra says it kind of is… Can Kyle blame her for trying to protect her granddaughter?
Newman Enterprises
Victoria says she doesn’t hate the idea of Nick returning to work. She says she forced the issue to give Nick time to process everything, and her intentions were good. She says it was Victor’s idea to make Nick’s temporary leave of absence permanent.
Nick says that Victor has been making a lot of staffing changes lately.
Victoria wonders if Victor’s becoming unstable. She wonders what Nikki thinks about it and whether she’s going to run Newman Media.
Nick says that Victor knows what he’s doing. Nikki wants to think about taking the position, and Audra will stay on as COO.
Victoria asks why Victor doesn’t tell her about his decisions, as she’s CEO and is supposed to be running the company.
She says she’s two steps behind because of Victor, and she’s going to let him know how angry she is with him. She asks if Nick will return to Newman Enterprises.
Nick says he doesn’t have much of a choice… He shouldn’t turn his back on the family business, but he needs time to consider it.
Victoria says she wants him back. She wants to work with him again.
Nick says that his “hurt” won’t get in the way of business, but he still can’t get past the feeling that Nate can’t be trusted.
Adam’s Apartment
Sharon asks Adam what he means by wanting to change.
Adam says he needs to stop looking at his position as a right but as something he can appreciate.
Sharon says it sounds like Adam wants to work at Newman again.
Adam says he does and would even be willing to start in a low-level position.
Sharon laughs and asks if he’d stop banging on doors to be CEO.
Adam says he’s willing to work his way up legitimately.
Sharon says he can’t be serious.
Adam asks where her optimism is now.
Sharon just doesn’t buy it. She says that deep down, Adam doesn’t know what he wants, and that’s why he always goes after the wrong thing.
The GCAC
Audra tells Kyle that Nikki’s holding her position hostage unless she ends things between her and Kyle.
Kyle asks if that’s what Audra wants.
Audra says that she likes having him around. She wants him to stay at Newman Media, but it’d have to be in a lesser role, which is better than being fired.
Kyle says Audra needs to focus on her position, and they should stop seeing each other.
Audra says Nikki only needs to think Kyle and Audra aren’t seeing each other. She looks around furtively and asks Kyle if he thinks they could pull off a secret affair.
Kyle says they could pull it off, but why risk it? Audra’s got too much to lose.
Audra says they’ll have to be very discreet. She doesn’t want to lose what they have, and it’s pretty exciting that they’ll be playing with fire every time they see each other.
Kyle thinks Audra loves the danger. He figures that even if they convince Nikki they’re not seeing each other, he might still lose his job after the merger.
Audra says she’ll take care of that.
The Newman House
Victoria enters the living room and tells Nikki and Victor she heard about the restructuring. She asks if they purposely waited until she was gone to make the decisions.
Nikki hugs her and welcomes her home, telling her they haven’t even said hello yet.
Victor says he wants to clear this up right away.
Nikki excuses herself, saying she has some calls to make. She leaves the room, leaving Victoria to talk with her father alone.
Victoria asks her father how he could do this behind her back.
Crimson Lights
Sally and Nick sit at a table with some coffee mugs in front of them.
Nick tells Sally about his meeting with Victor and the rest of the family. He explains how SNA will merge with Newman Media, and Nikki’s been tapped to run it.
Sally asks what happens to Nikki’s position as co-CEO of Newman Enterprises.
Nick says he’s the new co-CEO.
Sally is surprised that Victor put him back to working side-by-side with Victoria.
Nick says that Victoria was out of town when Victor made the decisions and is furious about the changes.
Sally asks if Nick is going to take the job.
Nick says he has a lot to think about.
Sally asks where Adam fits in.
Nick says that Adam’s out completely.
Sally thinks that must be a big blow to Adam.
Nick says Sally shouldn’t feel too sorry for Adam… He brought it all on himself.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam tells Sharon she’s wrong; he knows what he wants, but everything he’s ever wanted has been taken away. He says loss has been the defining factor in his life.
Sharon tells Adam that he’s slipping into martyrdom again.
Adam says he’s never gotten respect from his father or siblings. He says that his mom and Cliff, who raised him, are gone, and Connor’s gone with Chelsea. He lost Sharon and his daughter, and now Sally’s gone. It’s a lot for him to handle.
Sharon asks if Adam really loved Sally.
Adam says it doesn’t matter… Sally’s out of his life for good, and he needs to focus on changing himself. He asks if Sharon will help him change.

Crimson Lights
Nick tells Sally that Adam tried to grab power, but Victor had enough this time… There will be consequences for Adam now.
Sally asks how Nick’s taking it and what he thinks about the new position.
Nick says he’s happy and doesn’t want to talk about what will happen to him if he goes back to Newman. He wants to talk about something “important.”
Sally says it’s important to her because she cares about what happens to him.
Nick says he wants to talk about Sally. He asks if she’s excited to be starting her own company.
Sally says she is excited. She dusted off her business plan and remembered how fabulous her ideas were.
Nick says her ideas are great. He wants her to know he’s okay with being a hands-off investor in her company.
Sally says she appreciates his ideas, but they have to keep boundaries. She says Nick owes it to himself to figure out his future because it may not involve working at Newman. She says that just because Victor thinks it’s the right move doesn’t change things.
The Newman House
Victor tells Victoria that he only did a little restructuring and made a quick and definitive decision.
Victoria asks why he didn’t call her first. She wonders if Victor’s confident in his decision.
Victor says there’s nothing personal about it.
Victoria says he removed her co-CEO without consulting her first, and Nikki’s very strong in that position.
Victor says he wanted Nikki as CEO of Newman Media and got rid of Adam.
Victoria says she’s happy about his decision about Adam, but he still should have talked to her first.
Victor says he owns the company and will make whatever decisions he wants.
Adam’s Apartment
Sharon tells Adam she doesn’t know how to help him… She’s tried so many times before, and it’s never worked out.
Adam asks her to tell Nick that he’s sincere.
Sharon says she can only get so far with Nick where Adam’s concerned, and it’s not her responsibility to broker peace between him and his family. She says when Adam figures out what he wants, he’ll stop getting in his own way.
Adam says he’ll do anything to change. He’s had enough of talking about himself; what’s happening with Sharon? He wonders if Sharon will be fighting to take Kirsten back from Victor.
Sharon says she’s not going to back down. She isn’t sure she’ll succeed, but she refuses to fail.
Audra’s GCAC Suite
Audra phones Nikki and lets her know that she’s handled the “matter they discussed.”
Nikki tells Audra she’s happy to hear it.
Audra says she wants to discuss Kyle’s professional future with Nikki when convenient.
Nikki says she’s in the Athletic Club’s dining room and asks if Audra is around.
There’s a knock at Audra’s door, and she answers it. It’s Kyle. Audra gestures for him to be silent and pulls him into her suite.
Audra tells Nikki she needs another half hour and will meet her then. She ends the call.
Without a word, Audra starts making out with Kyle.
Kyle and Audra lie in bed half-naked, kissing and cuddling.
Audra says she’d love to stay in bed with Kyle but must meet with Nikki.
Kyle understands… Their futures are on the line.
Audra says the odds are high, and she likes it that way.
Kyle says it was exciting to sneak up the service stairs to her room. They kiss.
Audra slips away from Kyle’s grasp and says she has to go.
The Newman House
Victoria tells her father that she’s relieved he finally dealt with Adam appropriately, but they must remain on high alert because there’s no telling how Adam will retaliate for being fired.
Victor says they’ll be protected.
Victoria wishes she could have seen Adam’s face when Victor told him he was out.
Victor says that telling Adam to leave was one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do.
Victoria says it’s not the first time Victor has tossed him out, but hopefully, it’ll be the last.
Victor says he got no pleasure from kicking Adam to the curb.
Victoria says that Adam has no interest in their family and doesn’t even deserve the Newman name.
Crimson Lights
Nick tells Sally that if he returns to Newman Enterprises, he’ll be right between Nate and Victoria, and he’s sure that messes up their plans.
Sally says Nate and Victoria have probably gotten closer since Nick has been gone.
Nick says he still doesn’t trust Nate and never will, so if he did go back to the company, at least he’d be able to keep an eye on him… He worries that he’ll get caught up in the middle of things.
Sally says it’s a lot to expect from Nick.
Nick says that these types of power struggles caused him to run from the company in the past, and he’s sure his family thinks he’ll run again.
Sally says Nick might want to trust his instinct to walk away… He’s so much more than just a cog in the machinery like he is at Newman.
The GCAC Restaurant
Audra sits down with Nikki at a table.
Nikki asks Audra if things are over between her and Kyle Abbott.
Audra says it is… She heard Nikki loud and clear about their personal relationship.
Nikki nods. “Good.”
Audra says she still wants Kyle to work at Newman Media. She says he’s done very good work in the short time he’s worked there, even though he’s going through a separation and divorce from Summer.
Nikki says Summer played a big part in their breakup, so she’s willing to keep Kyle on but wants to talk to him before she makes that decision.
Audra figures that Nikki has decided to take over Newman Media.
Nikki says she has. She asks if Audra’s demotion bothers her.
Audra says she’s just relieved she wasn’t fired and looks forward to learning everything she can from Nikki.
Nikki thinks that’s a clever answer. She hopes they can have a good working relationship if there are no underhanded moves in the future.
Kyle appears at the doorway to the restaurant and gives Audra a cocky smile before leaving.
The Newman House
Victoria tells her father that she’s sorry that it’s been painful for him to deal with Adam and apologizes for her remarks about it.
Victor says he hates that there’s such “venom” between Victoria and Adam.
Victoria places all the blame on Adam. She’s happy to be rid of him; they can focus on the future with Adam gone.
Victor says he hopes that Victoria will welcome Nicholas back with welcome arms.
Victoria says of course she will… If he decides to come back.
Victor asks if Victoria’s talked to Nick.
Victoria says she has, but she has no idea what he’s planning to do.
Crimson Lights
Nick tells Sally he appreciates her input and loves her “fire” when she’s standing up for him.
Sally says she’ll back him in whatever he thinks is right for him.
Nick thanks her. He says that Sally is the right path for him. They kiss.
Adam’s Apartment
Sharon says it’s late; she needs to get home.
Adam says he appreciates her coming over, and she’s a good friend.
Sharon smirks and says she knows.
Adam says he meant what he said earlier… It’d mean a lot if she could help him win back his family’s trust.
Sharon says she can’t convince Nick that he’s changed… Adam will need to do that on his own.
Adam asks her to at least tell Nick they talked and to tell him that Adam sounds sincere and remorseful.
Sharon tells him to reach out himself. She asks how often Adam will stick his hand into the Newman fire.
Adam smirks and says he’ll do it until the fire goes out.
Sharon says that’s very profound. She says she’ll talk to Nick to judge his temperature.
Adam thanks her.
Sharon hopes Adam’s on the level and isn’t just playing a trick.
Adam tells her to have a little faith.
Sharon leaves.
Adam pours himself a drink, takes a gulp, and sighs.
