Last Episode
On the last episode of Y&R, Kyle threatened to move out with Harrison, Victor returned Kirsten Incorporated to Sharon, and Nick got a job offer.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam invites his father in. He figures Victor is there to gloat about removing him from the company.
Victor says he’s not there to gloat.
Adam asks if Victor had a change of heart and is there to apologize.
Victor says he’s not going to apologize either. He’s there as a father and wants to know how Adam is doing.
Society
Sharon talks with Nick while Sally looks on. She says she’d like Nick to run Kirsten with her.
Nick is tempted.
Sharon says that Victor didn’t put up a fight and gave her the company back, which is a good sign. She says Nick has to decide whether he will be co-CEO at Newman or take her up on her offer.
Nick says it’s the next logical step for him to become co-CEO at Newman.
Sharon asks him if that’s really what he wants for himself. She thinks he has reservations about returning to Newman but urges him to follow his heart.
Newman Enterprises
Nate walks into Victoria’s office as she’s rummaging through files. Nate welcomes Victoria back and asks how she’s doing.
Victoria says she’s tired… She got in late last night, had a “very unpleasant” meeting with Nick, then confronted her father about rearranging the business, but here she is.
Nate hopes Victoria doesn’t feel the need to avoid him anymore.
Victoria says she thought they’d gotten past that before she left for L.A.
Nate says that Victoria left right after their fight, which left him wondering where they stood.
Victoria says he can stop wondering. She kisses him, and he responds with passion.
Society
Nick tells Sharon he’s still upset at Victoria for giving him his spot at Newman.
Sharon says that should tell him everything he needs to know about working at Newman.
Nick says it’s not that simple.
Sharon says it is; Victoria took advantage of Nick’s situation to give her boyfriend his job.
Nick says he’s still on the fence about it. If he worked with Victoria, he could build his bond with her and keep his eye on Nate at the same time.
Nick has a dilemma; if he went back to Newman, he could hold things together, and if he doesn’t go back, all hell could break loose.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam tells Victor he’s surprised that Victor would show concern for him, even though he took away the business he was supposed to run.
Victor asks if Adam’s serious… Does he take no responsibility for the havoc he caused at McCall-Kirsten?
Newman Enterprises
Victoria kisses Nate and asks if that helped him know everything’s okay between them.
Nate says she’s very convincing and is handling the corporate shakeups better than he ever could have.
Victoria says she’s still furious that her father didn’t consult her about the changes. They talked about it, and she’s in a good place with him. She says the best part about it is that Adam is gone and Nikki will be running Newman Media, which will soar under her guidance.
Nate asks about Nick coming back. He asks if it’s going to create more tension. Will Nick try to get him fired?
Victoria goes to kiss Nate, but Nikki walks in and asks if she’s interrupting something.
Society
Sharon tells Nick it’s not his job to keep his family in line.
Nick says he might be the only one who can.
Sharon says they need to learn to solve their own problems.
Sally says Nick feels loyalty to his family. She gets it.
Sharon says that Nick’s own family hasn’t shown him loyalty. She says Nick doesn’t always need to swoop in and save the day, and if he wants to save the world, he should do it with Sharon and her company.
Nick says it’s a big decision, and he can’t answer her right away.
Sally says Nick should take the time he needs to make the right decision.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam sits down and tells his father that he was right. Victor gave him the world, and he almost burned it to the ground.
Victor looks like he can’t believe what he’s hearing. He thanks Adam for taking responsibility.
Adam says he should have listened to his instincts and said no to his dad’s offer right away.
Victor asks what that would have proved.
Adam says it would have shown humility; at the time, he felt he was owed the right to run Newman Media, which went against everything his mother taught him, but he managed to forget her lesson and was corrupted by the Newman world.
Victor says it sounds like Adam’s blaming him as much as he’s blaming himself.
Adam says that’s what he does… He lays the blame for his character defects on Victor. He’s always thought that he was the outcast in the family and that Victor would never give him the respect he thought he deserved.
Victor says he’s always done what he thought best for Adam.
Adam says he left Victor down every single time. Adam always had to push the limits by proving he was right in every situation.
Victor tears up and says it’s been so frustrating. Adam is his son, and he loves him. He asks where they go from here.
Newman Enterprises
Nikki tells Victoria and Nate that she spent the afternoon organizing her office move to Newman Media and spoke to the staff there about the changes.
Victoria asks how it went.
Nikki says Adam and Sally ran the company first, then it was just Sally, then Nate took over, then Audra and Kyle. And now Nikki’s taking over the taking over the CEO position… It’s been a lot for the staff to handle.
Victoria says that Nikki taking over should calm them down.
Nate agrees. He says Newman Media is lucky to have her and says Audra is probably looking forward to learning everything she can from Nikki.
Nikki tells Nate that’s kind of him to say, but the transition isn’t complete yet. They still have to convince Nick to come back and take the co-CEO position, and once they do that, everything will be as it should be.
Society
Nick tells Sally he hasn’t been able to think about anything but Newman and Kirsten lately.
Sally says she shouldn’t have said anything.
Nick says he wants Sally’s input on it.
Sharon says they should talk about it together alone. She leaves, saying she’s going to check on Mariah and Aria.
Sally watches Sharon leave and doesn’t say goodbye. Sally tells Nick she knows Sharon and Nick’s history and doesn’t have a problem with them working together; she wants Nick to do what’s best for himself and will support him no matter what he decides.
Nick says he could go either way right now… He could go with the family business and everything that would entail, or he could go with Kirsten Incorporated, which gives him the chance to do something good.
Sally says that Kirsten doesn’t have Adam involved, either.
Nick laughs and says that almost tips the scales toward Kirsten.
Sally says it’s too bad for Adam.
Nick reminds her that they shouldn’t be feeling sorry for Adam.
Sally knows. She can’t help but worry where Adam’s going to end up. Between this and losing Ava, Adam must be devastated.
Nick says that Adam may finally learn some humility.
Sally says that’s cold.
Nick says losing the baby is awful, but Adam’s created bad karma for himself and everyone else.
Sally asks if Nick is implying that Adam deserved to lose his daughter.
Adam’s Apartment
Adam tells Victor that what happens between them now is anyone’s guess. He says he made amends to Nick and Sharon, and he needs to change before he self-destructs.
Victor asks Adam to be more specific… The devil is in the details.
Adam says everyone could pretend they’d never met him before, and he could start with a clean slate.
Victor laughs and says nobody he knows could pretend not to know what Adam is capable of.
Adam says Victor’s right, but Victor could treat him like someone new to the family and the business and let him start at the bottom and work his way up like it should have been all along.
Victor said he gave Adam an office in the restroom once.
Adam remembers, but that’s not what he had in mind.
Victor asks if Adam is serious about this.
Adam says he is. He wants to prove himself and rise on his own merits, and over time, maybe Adam will be able to change Nick and Victoria’s opinion of him and give Victor the family unity he always wanted.
Victor tells Adam he hopes he really is serious about this. There’s only one problem, though…

The Chancellor Mansion
Mariah answers the door to find Sharon there. She welcomes her mom in.
Sharon asks how she is and how Tessa’s photoshoot is going.
Mariah says it’s going well, but it’s hard for Tessa to be away right now. She says she thinks she made a mistake by taking Devon and Abby up on their offer to stay at the Chancellor house while Tessa was gone… She doesn’t think Aria’s comfortable there.
Sharon asks why Mariah thinks that.
Mariah says everything’s unfamiliar to Aria, who is already confused and scared.
Sharon sits down with Mariah and reassures her that she didn’t screw up… Babies are adaptable and can adjust to anything. She says that she’s more worried about Mariah.
Mariah protests that she’s fine.
Sharon says she’s not fine… Aria’s facing a medical issue, and Mariah wouldn’t be human if she didn’t feel anxious and scared about it.
Mariah says she wants it to be over.
Sharon says Mariah’s a good mother and doesn’t think the problem is where they stay. Mariah has to work through what’s happening with Aria and what will be in her future.
Mariah says that’s the whole problem… They don’t know what Aria’s future will be.
Sharon says Mariah’s probably been on the internet finding the worst-case scenarios about people with hearing loss.
Mariah laughs and says it’s true.
Sharon says that she has to take it one step at a time.
Adam’s Apartment
Victor tells Adam that he thinks it’s admirable that Adam wants to change, but he knows how Adam works.
Victor says whenever Adam strikes out on a new path, his darker side emerges and he undoes everything he’s accomplished.
Adam says this time is different. He has nothing left to lose. He’s humbling himself before his father and wants to start over from the beginning, hopefully erasing some of the damage he’s caused along the way.
Victor says he has to think about it. He gets up and says that if Adam’s intentions are sincere, he’s deeply impressed. He leaves.
Society
Nick says he doesn’t think anyone deserves to lose a child. He says Sally doesn’t know Adam and how much damage Adam has caused to him and the ones he cares about; Nick thinks it’s inevitable that Adam suffers similar pain.
Sally says she’s done things to hurt people… Is her loss and suffering inevitable as well?
Nick says he’s sorry he said it. He wants to talk about something else. He has to make business decisions, and Sally is starting a new business of her own.
Sally says she’s excited about her new interior design firm.
Nick says she’s talented and will be wildly successful.
Sally says it’s hard to believe it’s finally a reality.
Nick says the moment she gives his team the business plan, they’ll set her up with a corporate account, and she’ll be off and running.
Sally says it sounds amazing.
Newman Enterprises
Victor walks into the office and greets Nate, Nikki, and Victoria.
Victoria says good afternoon.
Victor says it’ll be a good afternoon when Nicholas decides to return to where he belongs. Has Victoria heard from him?
Victoria says she hasn’t heard anything. Nick’s not answering her texts.
Nikki says that Nate might be why Nick hasn’t returned yet and suggests that Nate steps down from his position.
Victor says he understands why Nikki would say that since Nick and Nate don’t see eye-to-eye, but they should wait to see what Nick says before making any decisions. He says that Victoria and him have a meeting to get to.
Victoria shoots Nate a glance and leaves with Victor.
Nikki asks Nate what he would have done if Victor had agreed with her about Nate stepping down.
Chancellor Park
Nick takes a walk through the park to clear his mind.
He flashes back to when Victor had first welcomed him to the family business.
Victor had told him that they were going to work together and it was one of the proudest moments in his life to welcome Nick aboard.
Nick had told Victor that he wouldn’t let him down.
Nick flashes back to when he and Sharon had first bought the coffee shop.
Nick and Sharon had looked through the paperwork that made their new business official.
They talked about how exciting it was to go into business for themselves and start a new venture together.
Adam walks into the park and sees Nick deep in thought. He says that Nick looks like he’s got a lot on his mind.
Nick tells him that he does… And it’s all because of Adam.
Adam says thanks to him, Nick is going back to Newman. He says he sincerely offers him congratulations and hopes he’ll “kick ass” there.
Nick looks suspicious. He says this must be the Zen, humble Adam he’s heard about.
Adam says Nick doesn’t believe him.
Nick says he thinks Adam would need to go to a mountaintop retreat to change.
Adam says he just came from a mountaintop… He met with their father.
Nick asks whether Adam asked for another chance and promised to be a better version of himself.
Adam says he did, and he told Victor he’d be willing to start at the bottom and work his way up. No handouts, no favors.
Nick says that was clever, and Victor probably ate it up because he’s Adam’s biggest fan.
Adam says he’s not so sure about that.
Sally’s GCAC Suite
Sally enters her room and looks at her sketchbook.
She’s inspired and sits down at her desk and starts drawing.
The Chancellor Mansion
Sharon tells Mariah they will get through it with patience, love, and optimism. They’ll face any challenges that come their way.
Mariah says everyone keeps saying that, and she wants to believe it, but she keeps wondering what happens if Aria is permanently deaf… How will she deal with that?
Sharon tells Mariah to calm down.
Mariah says she’s driving herself and everyone else around her crazy… She needs a distraction from it all. She asks Sharon about Kirsten and wonders if she’ll have to return to Jabot and beg for her old job.
Sharon says it’s funny she should ask about that…
Newman Enterprises
Nate asks Nikki if she’s wondering if he’d make the “noble gesture” of stepping down for the greater good.
Nikki says she’d remove the nobility from it, but yes. That’s what she wants to know.
Nate says he would have stepped down for Nick’s sake if Victoria or Victor asked him to. He wouldn’t want to be where he’s not appreciated.
Nikki says he’s smooth, knowing the answer to every question. He’s got a talent.
Nate says Nikki doesn’t trust him. He asks what he has to do to convince her he’s sincere.
Nikki says he could step down before Victor asks him to… Then she might consider that he’s sincere.
Chancellor Park
Nick asks Adam if their father wasn’t buying the “new and improved” Adam.
Adam says Victor was skeptical, but not as much as Nick. He figures that won’t change any time soon.
Nick says it’s frustrating to figure out what to believe with Adam. He says they get close sometimes, but then Adam will do something to blow up their relationship. He says he thinks it’d be cool to have a brother who had his back, someone he could trust.
Adam says he can’t force Nick to take a chance with him, but things have changed for him. He thinks Victor has set the stage for them to figure out who they are and what they want. Maybe that was his plan all along.
The Chancellor Mansion
Sharon tells Mariah that Victor is letting her keep Kirsten… No strings attached.
Mariah can’t believe it. She’s happy for Sharon and says she deserves it.
Sharon says that she’s counting on Mariah to work with her.
Mariah hugs her and asks how Adam fits into it all.
Sharon says that Adam’s out of it altogether.
Mariah asks if Sharon pushed Adam out.
Sharon says that when they were freed from Newman Enterprises, they were freed from Adam, too. From now on, Sharon’s doing it on her own unless she’s lucky enough to have Nick by her side.
Sally’s GCAC Suite
Sally is working on her drawings when there’s a knock at the door.
Sally gets up, flustered, and looks through the peephole. When she sees it’s Adam, she quickly takes her hair down and opens the door.
Adam looks in and asks if he’s interrupting.
Sally invites him in.
Adam picks up a drawing and says there’s a new invention called the “tablet” which makes all the paper obsolete.
Sally says she’s tried it, but it doesn’t get her creative juices like going “old-school.”
Adam smiles and looks at the drawings. He says it’s happening… Nick is backing her, and she’s ready to start her own empire.
Sally says she wouldn’t go that far.
Adam says she needs to think big.
Sally says she’s thinking big but needs to take things one step at a time.
Adam says he could stand to learn that lesson too. He says that Sally’s going to knock it out of the park with this business.
Sally asks if Adam needs something as well.
Adam says Sally doesn’t need to worry about him.
Sally says she can’t help but worry about him.
Adam says he has a plan and is close to making it happen… One step at a time.
Newman Enterprises
Nate tells Nikki he doesn’t see the point of stepping aside until he knows what Nick’s going to do.
Nikki says she thought that’d be his answer.
Victor, Victoria, and Nick walk into the office.
Nick thanks them for being there and says he has news about his future and the family business.
Nick says he’s decided not to come back to Newman Enterprises. He’s going to work with Sharon at her company instead.
