Today’s Young and the Restless recap airs in the USA on Monday, January 29, 2024, and airs one day ahead in Canada. We post our Y&R recaps every weekday!
Last Episode
On the last episode of Y&R, Traci accompanied Ashley to Paris, Nikki & Diane had a snippy exchange while they cleared the air, and Nate & Audra got closer.
The Genoa City Athletic Club
Chance meets Summer in the lobby. He apologizes for being late for their dinner date.
Summer says she had to work late and just arrived at the club herself, so it’s okay!
Chance helps her off with her coat. She’s wearing a slinky red number, and Chance tells her she looks perfect.
Newman Media
Audra knocks on Nikki’s office door and asks why Nikki wants to talk.
Nikki says she’s unhappy with their last exchange and wants to clear the air. She apologizes for snapping at her; she knows Audra was only trying to be helpful.
Audra says she’s the one who owes Nikki an apology… She overstepped her bounds by discussing personal things that are none of her business.
Nikki agrees.
Audra says she won’t bring it up or discuss her family again. Neither is relevant to office work.
Nikki thinks it’s best to keep their work and personal lives separate.
Audra smiles and says that’s the way it should be.
Nikki’s glad they agree. She says Audra will understand what she’s about to ask her.
Society
Jack calls Nikki back and leaves a voicemail, telling her that he’s there for her to talk to. Jack heads over to the bar and sees Victor sitting there. Jack grimaces and steels himself before walking over to Victor and saying hello.
Victor invites him to have a seat and says he’s not in a very conversational mood.
Jack nods and says Victor looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders… He knows Victor doesn’t really want to talk, but says if he needs a sympathetic ear, Jack is there to listen.
Victor asks why he’d confide in Jack, of all people.
Jack says he figured they were over their animosity by now… In fact, days go by when Jack never even thinks about Victor! He says he’s not asking for Newman Enterprise secrets, he just thought they could share a drink together; after all they have a grandson in common!
Jack pulls out his phone and shows Victor a picture of Harrison. Victor laughs and calls him a cute kid.
Jack agrees and says he’s still upset about Kyle and Summer.
Victor understands. He says it affects him when one of his loved ones is going through a heartbreak.
Jack says he wishes he could just take away their pain and put it on himself instead.
Victor says that’s what parenting and grandparenting is all about.
Jack asks Victor what he’ll have to drink.
Victor asks the bartender to bring out the bottle of tequila he’d shown him earlier and to pour them both drinks… And put it on Jack’s tab!
Newman Media
Audra tells Nikki she’s prepared to help her with anything she needs. She hopes Nikki will forgive her overstepping.
Nikki says the genie is out of the bottle, and she’s worried that things will be different between them now that Audra knows about her problem. She feels like Audra will be watching and waiting for her to slip, and she doesn’t think they can have a good working relationship with Audra looking over her shoulder.
Audra says she’s going to pretend their conversation never happened.
Nikki says she will feel judged, and nothing Audra or Nikki does will stop that feeling. She says that type of co-dependency is dangerous to her recovery, and that must come first right now.
Audra says it sounds like Nikki’s preparing to fire her.
The GCAC Dining Room
Summer and Chance sit at a table, discussing the wine. It’s a vermentino, and Summer says she’s familiar with the vintage since she lived in Italy with Kyle.
Chance thinks it must have been nice to live in Italy. He says it’s a beautiful country with a beautiful language. He learned a bit about Italy when Abby was building the wine list for Society.
There’s an uncomfortable silence, and Chance asks what’s happening… This is the first time they’ve had to work to have a conversation!
Summer thinks maybe it’s her outfit.
Chance tells her there’s nothing wrong with her outfit.
Summer says she means it’s a dating outfit, and every other time they’ve hung out, it’s been as friends and nothing more.
Chance says their lunch date was “kind of crashed” by Billy and Chelsea. It was more of a work double date.
Summer says now they’re on a date as more than just friends.
Chance laughs and raises his glass in a toast. No pressure!
Summer clinks her glass with his and drains it. Chance refills both their glasses as they laugh.
Summer looks around the restaurant, and Chance asks if she’s looking for a good social media backdrop. Summer goes along with it and says they could feed each other chocolate-covered strawberries and post a pic on social media with a hashtag of #firstdatevibes.
Chance asks if she actually wants to do that.
Summer laughs and says she “put away her selfie face” years ago. She thinks they need to get to know each other better.
Chance says she seems a little preoccupied.
Summer says she’s more self-conscious than anything. She feels like any second, someone they know could walk in and make it awkward. Why settle for normal first-date jitters when she can have full-blown social anxiety? They laugh.
Chance asks if she’s worried about seeing Kyle.
Chance nods. She says it’d be bad seeing him or Abby or, even worse, seeing her mom. If Phyllis were there, she’d be fawning over them and giving her “I told-you-so’s.”
Chance asks why Phyllis would do that.
Summer says her mom predicted they had a connection.
Chance laughs. No way! Phyllis the matchmaker! He asks if the prediction came before Phyllis returned from the dead or afterward.
Summer laughs and says Chance should just forget she said anything.
Chance grins and says he’s not worried about anyone intruding on their date… Especially her mom. He tells her that she shouldn’t be worried about Sharon, either. Sharon had told him that she wanted him to be happy.
Summer says Kyle said the same thing to her. She asks what’s stopping them.
Chance says he thinks he knows.
Society
Victor tells Jack to get to the point; what does Jack think is weighing on him?
Jack says he heard that Victor’s family went through some kidnapping trauma.
Victor asks where he heard that from.
Jack says Nikki told him about it. He says he saw her at Crimson Lights, and she was rattled. He’s known Nikki for a long time and can tell when she’s not acting like herself. He says he was concerned and asked what was wrong.
Victor asks what Nikki told him.
Jack says she didn’t say much at first, but he could tell it was very traumatic.
Victor says it was tough on all of them. He says it’s been dealt with and their family is safe now.
Jack says he’s glad Victor has everything handled. Protecting their families is what gives a man purpose.
Victor says he’ll drink to that. They raise their glasses and clink them in a toast.
Jack says Nikki mentioned that Victoria had a particularly rough time and that she left Newman to deal with it.
Victor says Jack seems to know a lot about it. Victoria and Nikki are dealing with it.
Jack says he’s glad to hear it.
Newman Media
Nikki closes the door to her office and reassures Audra that she’s not getting fired. An opportunity has come up that she thinks will alleviate any stress between them.
Audra asks what the opportunity is.
Nikki says she’d like Audra to oversee their Newman Media office opening in London.
Audra says she could, but they’re not scheduled to open for another year.
Nikki says that’s why she needs to go now; there’s so much to do to prepare for it. She’d want Audra to stay on and run it.
Audra can’t believe Nikki wants her to move to London.
Nikki says Audra knows the city; she used to live there.
Audra says she’s flattered, but she likes Genoa City and doesn’t want to leave.
Nikki says opening an office would really prove Audra’s worth to the Newman Empire.
Audra says she’s been kicking herself ever since she told Nikki about her father, and she was worried about it causing tension between them.
Nikki says they’re on the same page.
Audra shakes her head. They’re not on the same page. She said she’d give Nikki space, but she didn’t think it would mean she’d be shipped out of the country. There must be another way to work this out!
Nikki says she should think of it as an amazing opportunity. She hopes Audra won’t say no. She says Audra wants to help her, and this is a job she needs her COO to do for her.
Audra thinks Nikki will let her go if she turns down the move to London.
Nikki says she can’t see any other option.
Audra says Nikki will be making a huge mistake if she does this.
The GCAC Dining Room
Summer asks Chance what idea he has to make their date less awkward.
Chance says Summer said it first… They need to get to know each other better.
Summer isn’t sure that’s the problem. She says Chance was there for her when she found out her mom was a “dud” and was there for her when her marriage was ending.
Chance says Summer was there for him after he got shot and supported him through a career change and a breakup.
Summer says it seems they know each other pretty well.
Chance says they have the big-picture items, but they need to know the small details too. He says he needs to know things like how she takes her coffee and what movie she’s seen more than ten times.
Summer says she wants to know if he’s ever cheated.
Chance “oofs” and says they’re going there.
Summer laughs and says if they’re going to do it, they’ve got to do it right.
They agree to alternate questions and that they need to keep it focused on themselves, no outsiders!
Summer goes first. She asks Chance to surprise her; tell her something that she’d never guess about him.
Chance grins and says they need more wine for this. He summons the waiter.
Newman Media
Nikki tells Audra not to threaten her.
Audra says she’s not… She’s saying this out of concern.
Nikki tells her not to patronize her.
Audra says Nikki lost Claire as an assistant and hasn’t found a replacement yet; if Nikki sends Audra to London, she’ll be running Newman Media on her own.
Nikki asks if Audra thinks she’s incapable of running it on her own.
Audra says it’d be a monumental task for anyone, and given Nikki’s situation, it would pose a threat to her recovery.
Nikki throws up her hands and says Audra’s talking about her “fragile state” again. It proves her point that their working relationship has changed.
Audra says it does change things, but she has experience with stress triggering people’s relapses.
Nikki says she’s aware of the pitfalls and has a plan to deal with them. Audra can stop pretending to care about her and the company… Just say she’s worried about her own job!
Audra says it’s obvious that Nikki’s been thinking about this for a while now.
Nikki says she had to look at what was best for the company and herself.
Audra says Nikki wants her to move across the ocean so she won’t be reminded of her disease. She says Nikki will want a break from the pressure, and the first drink will help a bit, but it won’t be enough. She says it’s a slippery slope, and Nikki needs to think about all the people she’ll hurt when she falls, and if she does this, she will fall.
Nikki says she’s sorry Audra feels that way, and she has no choice but to let Audra go.
Society
Jack tells Victor he’s happy that everyone is dealing with the trauma.
Victor says it’s not easy, but he’s giving them the support they need; he’ll always protect his family.
Jack says that’s one of the few things he admires about Victor.
Victor asks what he means by a “few” things… There are other things Jack admires about him?
Jack says he’s always considered Victor a formidable foe who kept him on his toes for years. He misses the challenge.
Victor says there was a time or two he thought he’d met his match in Jack.
Jack grins and says he never thought he’d never hear Victor say that.
Victor assures him the feeling didn’t last long.
Jack chuckles.
Victor thanks Jack for buying him a drink.
Jack laughs and thanks Victor for choosing the most expensive drink in the place.
Victor says he wouldn’t order a cheap one. He wants Jack to pay through the nose! He asks Jack what he really is there to talk about.
Jack says his only concern is for Nikki and Victor’s family after their ordeal.
Victor says it’s family business and none of Jack’s concern.
Jack says he’s proud that he still has a friendship with Nikki after the battles he’s had with Victor over the years. He only wants to know that Victor’s family is okay.
Victor says Jack asked, and Victor answered… It’s the last time they’ll discuss it.
Newman Media
Audra tells Nikki she won’t humiliate herself by begging for her job.
Nikki says she’ll have HR put together a generous severance package. She says her “glowing recommendation” should help Audra with her job search. The termination is effective immediately. She reminds Audra that she signed an NDA when she took the job.
Audra’s well aware. Before she leaves the office, she tells Nikki it’s been a privilege working with and learning from her. She wishes her the best and hopes she’ll beat her disease.
Audra leaves and closes the door, pausing momentarily to collect herself.
Nikki fumbles in the desk drawer and pulls out her flask. She looks at it, her hands trembling, before she puts it back in the drawer. She pulls out her phone and calls Jack.
Society
Jack answers the phone and asks Nikki what he can do for her. He doesn’t mention to Victor that he’s talking to Nikki.
Nikki says she needs to talk to someone… Now. She’s at the office.
Jack says he’s on the way, and they end the call.
Victor asks if he’s alright.
Jack says everything is fine… He has to go, as Diane is expecting him.
Victor nods. He says he’ll tell Nikki Jack inquired after her. He thanks Jack for the drink.
Jack smiles and leaves the restaurant.
The GCAC Dining Room
Chance tells Summer that her distaste for watermelon might be a dealbreaker… Who doesn’t like watermelon? Next, she’ll tell him she doesn’t like lettuce, peanut butter, and mayonnaise sandwiches!
Summer says that sounds gross and would probably kill her. She has a severe peanut allergy!
Chance says he gets hives when he eats kiwi fruit, but it’s not quite the same.
Summer says they need to make sure not to order the peanut butter/kiwi pie for dessert.
They continue to joke around, and Chance says he likes her silly side. He says he’d spring into action if she had a serious reaction. He’s got a first aid badge, after all, just like she had gotten hers from her “Sunflower Girls.” (Something like Girl Guides.)
Summer is surprised he remembered that. She thinks it must be his detective training that lets him remember such little details.
Chance says he rarely remembers everything someone has told him unless he’s on a case. He’s been accused of being in his own world and not paying attention to significant others.
Summer tells him that they’re keeping other people out of their conversation, remember?
Chance remembers. He doesn’t seem to forget anything she’s told him!
Society
Audra walks into the restaurant and sees Victor at the bar.
Victor greets her and asks if she’s coming from the office and if Nikki’s still there.
Audra says she is. She says Nikki called her in to discuss her offer.
Victor asks what offer that was.
Audra tells him that Nikki wanted her to open the Newman office in London, and when she declined, Nikki fired her.
Victor says he’d never heard about those plans.
Audra says she knows Victor would want to know… Nikki was sober when she fired her. She’s aware she’s been drinking.
Victor asks if Audra confronted Nikki about it.
Audra says it’s not what he thinks. For reasons that she shared with Nikki, she’d never use it against her. She offered to help any way she could, but it seemed to be a mistake to do so.
Victor says he’s sorry to hear that. He’ll make it up to her; Newman Enterprises has many opportunities.
Audra says she’s signed an NDA and would never use Nikki’s sobriety as a bargaining chip. She asks if it’d be in exchange for her silence about Nikki.
Victor says they value discretion, and she could shine in any of Newman’s many divisions.
Audra says she may accept in the future, but she has other plans for now. She says it’s been a “clarifying” evening, and she knows her next move.
Victor smiles and nods. He tells her to have a good evening and leaves the restaurant.
Newman Media
Jack meets Nikki in her office. He asks what made her feel the need to reach out.
Nikki says she had a difficult day with Audra; she knows that she’s been struggling with her sobriety. She says Audra was understanding and supportive and shared that her father was an alcoholic who lost his battle.
Jack asks if Nikki believes Audra about that.
Nikki nods. She says Audra has a “radar” for the disease and could tell there was something off about her interaction with Seth, and Nikki had told Audra her suspicions about Seth.
Jack says he’s seen Audra manipulate Kyle, and the fact she associates with Tucker doesn’t make him have much faith in her, but obviously, Nikki trusts her.
Nikki says she did trust her, but her trust was misplaced. Audra started checking on her, and Nikki realized that confiding in her was a mistake. She knew it would make their working relationship very difficult.
Jack asks if Nikki discussed it with her.
Nikki says she did. She thought she had a good plan; Audra could open the new office in London, but she refused, and Nikki had no choice… She had to let her go.
Jack says he understands her thinking, but Audra is a wildcard.
Nikki says that’s why she had to fire her.
Jack says it might be a situation where she should keep her enemies closer.
Nikki asks if Jack thinks she made a mistake.
Jack says he’s not judging her. He wonders if it’s worth the risk if Audra thinks she’s been wrongfully terminated.
Nikki says Audra wouldn’t dare; she signed an NDA, and she doesn’t think Audra would take legal action.
Jack says that’s good, but he worries about Nikki running Newman Media short-staffed. It’s not a good recipe for sobriety!
Nikki gasps and says that’s what Audra said. Nikki thinks she’s made a mistake.
Jack says Nikki needs to make a plan.
Nikki asks if he thinks she should hire Audra back.
Jack says it’s too late for that. They can find a replacement COO… What about Nick?
Nikki says it’d be perfect, but Nick and Adam have been working as co-CEOs at Newman Enterprises, and that’s been working out. She doesn’t want to break up a good thing.
Jack asks if Victoria would fill the position.
Nikki says Victoria needs to focus on her family right now. She says that she won’t work with Adam, either… That would be a recipe for disaster.
Jack says Nate or Sally could step in… They both know the company.
Nikki says she won’t ever trust Nate again. His ambition almost led him to betray Victor, and she could never work beside Sally, either.
Jack says he forgot that Sally is running her own company, so she can’t step in.
Nikki says she’s not sure she can do this anymore… Her life is spiraling out of control, and it’s all her fault!
Jack says he has an idea… One she won’t shoot down.
The GCAC Dining Room
Chance tells Summer they need to dive into dangerous territory… Teenage years!
Summer laughs and says they were having so much fun, though!
Chance wants to talk about unrequited crushes and other stuff.
Summer says her teenage years were wild, but she tamed down a bit in her twenties.
Chance says he knows about her “Grand Theft Auto” story… And he’s shocked!
Summer laughs and asks Chance if he ever had a rebellious streak.
Chance says he was straight as an arrow.
Summer says the charges against her were dropped, and the whole situation came about because she fell for the wrong guy.
Chance says that’s why he’s with her… She has no outstanding warrants!
Summer says she’s had her heart broken once or twice.
Chance says you learn something from it every time you get your heart broken.
Summer says that must mean she’s a genius. They laugh. Summer says she can’t see herself going through what she did with Kyle; she thought he was the love of her life.
Chance says he felt the same way when he split up with Abby.
Summer says something has changed lately; she feels lighter and more hopeful.
Chance raises his coffee cup. “Cheers to that!”
Newman Media
Nikki begs Jack to tell her how to fix things.
Jack says he’ll do his due diligence; he thinks he knows someone who might fit in perfectly at Newman Media.
Nikki asks if Jack actually has a plan or whether he’s just stalling.
Jack says she needs to trust him. He needs to speak to the person first and thinks she’ll like them, but he needs to do it his way.
Nikki asks when she’ll get an answer.
Jack tells her he’ll tell her as soon as he can. He tells her not to get burnt out in the meantime.
Nikki wonders if she should take a leave of absence.
Jack says she needs work to stay focused. Idle time isn’t an addict’s friend! They’ll fix this, but it may take a while. He tells her to lean on him in the meantime. He won’t let her give herself a good reason to drink and destroy everything she’s worked so hard for.
Nikki thanks him and says he’s saved her.
Jack says she saved herself by calling him and asking for help. He says she’s strong.
Nikki says she’d be drinking if he hadn’t answered her call.
Jack says they need to handle one crisis at a time. He’s in her corner.
There’s a knock at the door. The handle wiggles, but it’s locked. Nikki looks at Jack with concern.
Victor calls out, “Nikki? Are you there?”

I don’t like Summer and Chance together at all..She needs to find a new unknown love interest or go back with Kyle..Audra deserves to get the boot..she has deserved it for a long time..I’m glad Nikki fired her. And Ashley really loves Tucker, and he loves her they belong together..Heather doesn’t deserve to have Daniel back so easily either. I hope Lily puts up a good fight for him because Heather will screw him again I’m sure.
Amen to everything you said
Would like see Kyle and Summer get back together
I think Sharon and Chance should be together. Daniel
I love, love Chance and Summer together. They’re having a great time getting to know one another. There is a spark, great chemistry between them. Let them pursue this relationship without throwing a wrench in it – at least for some time. Beautiful couple!!
Nikki feels insecure and guilty, so she’s lashing out at everyone. She needs to stop the pity party, Ms holier than thou attitude!!! She needed to be taken down a notch of two. She too self righteous!! Summer and Chance, YES!!
I wonder who Jack is Thinking about getting to help Nicki at Newman Media??
I am thinking Kyle
Summer and Chance are quite happy and Sharon too. However, if Sharon walked in and saw them together; it would hurt her on some level.
Audra seems to be a very caring individual. I think she would have helped Nikki in maintaining her sobriety. Jack is the wrong choice to be Nikki’s sponsor. They have too much history together and Victor will find out sooner than later. Lauren would have been a better choice.
I think Nick & Sharon need to find their way back together
Chance & Summer together is fine.
Jordan needs to be killed off.
Does anyone else think that Ashley going back to that Bistro is only going to turn out making her believe Tucker’s version of what happened is true, and her version is untrue ONLY because Tucker has paid off the the Bistro waitstaff so they will tell her Tucker’s version is true?? I mean, good grief! He’s even the one who put the idea in Ashley’s head to go back to Paris and ask the waitstaff!! Can she and Traci not see that?? Just another case of ‘here we have characters who are supposedly highly educated, intelligent, beautiful, rich, and yet they are acting like they don’t have any sense at all’!!!! Happens all the time! I get so sick of this nonsense I don’t even care to watch Y&R OR B&B ever again!! Just a bunch of nonsense! Makes me wonder why people like these are allowed to live and breed at all!
Love the Summer/Chance pairing! They make a perfect, refreshing couple. The Ashley thing, well, it’s just snooze time.
I think Jack is hoping Phillis come to be Nikki assistant
