Sally’s Hotel Suite
Sally and Adam gently kiss and undress each other.

They end up in bed together.

After they make love, Adam says, “This doesn’t have to be the end.”
Sally says, “It doesn’t have to be, but it is.”

She says it can’t happen again. She talks about how they’d lost something that they can’t get back.
Crying, Sally says that she’ll always be thankful for him standing up for her when everyone was throwing daggers her way.

She says that he is a wonderful man, a dedicated father, and even though his instincts to protect her were misguided, she says that it’s a sign of how amazing a partner he can be.
Adam laughs sadly and says, “It’s too bad I just can’t be your partner.”

Sally says they have to move on so they can learn from their mistakes, they have to let each other go to find their true happiness.
They get dressed, and Adam tells her that she deserves the world. He says he hopes she never settles for second best.

They kiss a sad goodbye.

In the hallway, Nick comes in, and sees Adam leaving Sally’s place. Adam says a brief hello and pushes by Nick.

Nick knocks on Sally’s door and enters.
He takes in what she’s wearing, the look in her eyes, and looks over at the blankets and sheets that are askew on the bed.

He says, “I guess this is a bad time.”
