Anthony Morina Exits as Young and Restless Co-Executive Producer and What That Means for The Show

Anthony Morina

Will this change make any difference to the storylines?

We’ve learned that Anthony Morina has been let go as Co-Executive Producer of Young and Restless, according to Daytime Confidential.

This leaves Josh Griffith as the sole showrunner for Y&R.

Morina was a producer and co-executive producer of the show from 2007 to 2022, and was accused of sexual harassment by a Y&R background actor, Briana Thomas in 2021.

According to the complaint, he would often leer at her, get close to her, and compliment her looks, telling her she could “really be something” on the show. In one poolside scene, he allegedly tried to get her to remove her sarong so that he could see her in a bikini.

We haven’t been able to determine the reason that he was let go from the show, but it makes sense that the allegations could have had something to do with it.

Morina’s exit leaves Josh Griffith as the Head Writer and Executive Producer, which probably means there won’t be a lot of changes to the show.

For those concerned that the writing will decline, we do know that the Head Writer isn’t the sole person who gives the go ahead for storylines.

Sony’s executives likely have their hands in the pie to some extent. Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) only has positive feedback about Josh Griffith’s writing, and Griffith has been working on and off with Y&R since 2006, where he was a breakdown writer (scene writer) and creative consultant.

Griffith has been Head Writer since 2019. In an interview with SoapHub, Morina has confirmed he is indeed leaving the show. “After 16 years, it’s time to move on to other things. I’m most proud of keeping the show going over the last two and a half years through COVID once we returned after the initial production shutdown.”

We’ll hopefully have an update soon on whether a co-executive producer will be named.
